Apple pushes out yet another iPhoto '11 update

Following an update last week to fix data loss and corruption, this latest bug fix adds some additional print product options and fixes what Apple calls "overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues."

The 9.1 update gives users photo calendars back, and adds some holiday card options. The first release of iPhoto '11 about 2 weeks ago caused some users to lose their photo libraries. That issue seems to have quieted down, but many users are very upset about how this new iLife app works. It's good to see Apple jumping on these issues quickly, although this latest iPhoto has been a rough ride for many users.

The update is about 65 MB, and can be downloaded from the Software Update option under the Apple Menu. After you upgrade the app will rescan and update your photo library, so take a deep breath.

They've got $50 billion cash, hire some more software engineers! If iPhoto '11 is ad bad as it sounds i will never upgrade. Add to safari 5 is a beachball fest. Apple WTF?

Mine was 186.5MB. Why the file size differences?

They added more than new themes for letterpress cards in this update. They also increased the price by 10%. I had a letterpress card saved on my laptop and after the update it was $3.99 AUD. On my MacPro without the update it is still $3.63 AUD. I guess I'll order them from my MacPro :)

I updated. iPhoto '11 still sucks. It's crashed twice within 30 minutes on me. One of the crashes was while my computer was sitting idle. They may have fixed calendars, but the software is still ridiculously slow and buggy, and you can't use multitouch to zoom unless you want to enter the horrible edit mode that takes up 1/3 of the screen. I've gone back to iPhoto '08 on all but one of my computers. That one is a test case to see if Apple will ever get it right. Right now, they've had two updates and the software seems less stable than when they released it for me. One strike left Apple...

Summary:
iPhoto '08 >> iPhoto '11
If you're thinking of upgrading, don't.
Picasa >> iPhoto '11 and I really don't care for Picasa on the Mac.

Fantastic. 6 crashes within 1 hour after the update. iPhoto was crashing even when it was just sitting in the background, unused... iPhoto '11 is by far the WORST Apple software I have ever used.

Does anyone know if you can send a card directly to a recipient (meaning in a sealed envelope), or does it come to you instead?

Before this upgrade to iPhoto 11 I could drag photos from one event to another. Thought they might fix that with this second update but no. The Help section says I should be able to do it but if I have two events open and try it, it doesn't work; I have to cut and paste.

After updating iPhoto 11 with this update, I've noticed scrolling seems very jagged now. Never noticed that before this update... sigh. Maybe there will be a third update coming out soon.

so I work with software. and occasionally I have bugs. and when I release new software, if I were to supply release notes that say "...and other minor issues" my boss and users would be screaming at me for more information than that.
