you could just superglue a 1/4-20 nut to an office butterfly clip and put it on top of any existing tripod.
total cost: maybe 50 cents if you have to buy the parts, but chances are you've got them lying about.
the black clips you use to bind a sheaf of papers together if they're too big for a paper clip. the smallest size doesn't work, but a medium size is great.
and no, it hasn't damaged my iPhone 4 in many hours of use.
I was impressed with the 3G/3GS version but this looks better. On the 3G/3GS version the tripod attaches to the centre of the iPhone limiting the angle of adjustment possible and adding bulk to case - still it was a good product. unfortunately one of my links cracked and now is a little loose.
Still it does great service as a iPhone stand when watching iPlayer in bed or as a desktop "dock".
