iXtreamer streams audio and video from your iOS 4 device to your TV

Didn't see the iPad dock of your dreams in the Holiday Gift Guide: Docks that rock post from the other day? Looking for one that can turn your iPad into a media streaming device? You might want to check out Xtreamer's new iXtreamer system, which enables wired and wireless AV streaming from your iPad, iPhone, or iPod to your TV. While it isn't sold with any internal means to store your media, there is space for a 3.5" HDD with a capacity of up to 3 TB storage along with two additional USB ports.

Priced at €175 or about US$237 with today's exchange rate, notable features include 1080p playback, 802.11n connectivity, internet radio streaming, and Blu-ray ISO support. And unlike the Apple TV, the iXtreamer can seemingly handle almost any audio or video format you could dream up while also accessing media stored on networked drives or other computers in your home. This could be a big selling point for those who may think that the Apple TV is just for mom.

I initially didn't even consider this. But I looked a bit more into it, as I have a Popcorn Hour that is getting long in the tooth.

This thing supports everything a dedicated media player like the PCH, but adds full 7.1 surround, the ability to play BluRay iso files and has no limitations as to the file types it supports for over the air streaming.

Its only fault is not having the ability to use airplay or netflix. That said, depending on how you "consume" your media, this might be one hell of an attractive option.

Although she did come across sounding like a gigantic tool. Using fracture instead of fraction made me snort water up my nose. And how many times are people going to forget to say www DOT.

I know we can figure it out, and I know she meant fraction, but if you are going to put marketing money into a video like this, don't come across sounding uneducated and stupid.

All of this for ONLY $237! reminds me of all the overpriced iPad cases on the market.

BTW, ixtreamer sounds like someone has a case of diarrhea in the extreme.

Who cares if it's worth anything? They used cool techno for the background music and that makes everything sexier!! Sure, you can pay a ton less with Airplay and Plex combined with the $50 Component iPhone cable, but does is the demo for that combo sexy? I didn't think so!

ug. completely unneccessary to have a big, hot, hard drive in your living room. It will die, if not sooner then later when you want to watch.

I had a mini with boxee for this and it died from power fluctuation in my old low-quality-build house (with a surge protector). Live spinning drives are too vulnerable. I am loving the cheap and lightweight new apple tv. i don't need every codec under the sun, the video just has to go into itunes. not that hard. if it dies out of warranty, who cares, its only $100

the mini dying was a blessing in disguise. reallly looking forward to airplay

@Brian

You don't NEED to have a drive. But you CAN if you want.

Read or listen before posting.
