Mophie juice pack plus: more iPhone 4 battery life, less filling
Many of us on the TUAW staff are big fans of the Mophie juice pack battery packs for iPhone, and now the company has come out with one that packs a lot of capacity into a case that's only 1 millimeter thicker than the skinny juice pack air.
The juice pack plus for iPhone 4 ($99.95) comes with a whopping 2,000 mAh capacity, which can provide up to 8 hours additional talk time or 7 more hours of internet use on a 3G network, or up to 11 hours more internet use on a Wi-Fi network. That's 500 mAh more than the juice pack air ($79.95) in virtually the same volume.
Mophie added some other features to the juice pack plus as well. It's designed as a virtual speaker box that redirects sound from the bottom of the iPhone 4 -- where the speakers are -- to the front. That's useful in providing richer sound and helpful during those long conference calls with the iPhone 4 in speakerphone mode.
Mophie seems to be going to the printing world for their choice of colors for the juice pack plus, as it will be CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (black)). The black case is available now; the colors should be available in January according to a Mophie spokesman. We'll have a full review and giveaway in the near future.

I really want this...
January 10 2011 at 12:18 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI wonder if the outside casing (specifically the colored portion is scratch resistant). I have the first generation mophie iPhone 4 case and there are scratches near the bottom and mini-USB adapter plug-in area.
I don't want a colored case, if the color is going to scratch off (excluding normal wear & tear).
Does this case degrade voice, data and wifi reception? With the release of the iPhone 4, there have been articles that point out that since the antennae is built into the iPhone side casing, holding or blocking the casing incorrectly will degrade antennae reception.

Can anyone say if the iPhone 4 version is better than the 3GS version as far as signal goes? I had one for my 3GS and the capacity was awesome but it absolutely destroyed my signal.
Is this version any better? I get that it covers the area for the "death grip" and that could have a positive impact on reception - but I want to know about actual usage....
Sweet just ordered the Juice pack plus! I'm a pretty heavy user and I could really use the extra juice at the end of the day. I use mine about 5-6 hours a day and by then its about 25% so this will really help. Thanks TUAW!
