Apple issues 4.1.1 update for Apple TV

We've gotten a few reports that Apple has released a minor build update for the new Apple TV. Users aren't reporting any obvious new features or specific performance upgrades with the brand new 4.2.1 4.1.1 update, so it's likely that this latest Apple TV update is just for bug fixes. Not all users are seeing the update quite yet, but it should propagate to everybody before long.

MacRumors notes that the Apple TV 4.1.1 update is labeled Build 8C154. The previous Apple TV iOS 4.1 was Build 8C150. If you Apple TV owners see any differences, let us know in the comments.

This may or not be related to this comment thread, but I had rented and HD movie and it took FOREVER to download and start playing. In fact, it wasn't till the next day before I could watch it. I'm hoping this update will solve that issue (haven't had the opportunity to rent since I updated). But I did receive my receipt for the rental which gave me the opportunity to "Report a Problem" so I did and here's the (edited) reply I just got back:

I have reversed the charge for the movie rental you purchased from the iTunes Store.

In three to five business days, a credit of $3.99 should be posted to the credit card that appears on the receipt for that purchase.

I am sorry to inform you that the streaming of the movie rental is a bit slow in the Apple TV. Hence I request you to please download the movie rental from a computer and then transfer it to your Apple TV.

This update pretty much rendered my ATV2 useless... worked fine for months and now have load times of 1+ hrs & HDCP errors!!!

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about...Apple TV's already had 4.2 (Jasper 8C150), and this update is clearly listed as 4.2.1 (Jasper 8C154) on Apple's servers.

It also seems to be fixing a problem with the Apple TV being completely unresponsive in absence of an active Internet connection.

(And yes, it's 4.1.1. Apple TV hasn't had 4.2 yet.)

I did the tethered jailbreak to 4.2 just as the new 4.2.1 was being posted... so for now I'll stay with 4.2, plex and last.fm and stuff.

But I use it on a Philips TV and I have the annoying problem of inverted colors coming up every 20 minutes or so. I would very much like to know if this update fixes it. Thanks!

Hulu Plus and deals signed by many more TV networks must come soon or once again the Apple TV falls obsolete very quickly.

I'm bummed because I've got one of those TVs where if the TV is turned on / wakes up AFTER the ATV2, the resolution is all SD (black bars) and the background is magenta instead of black. After having applied the FW update, I hoped it'd have fixed it. Instead, it just made the behavior look even more screwed up.

The solution is still to tell the ATV2 to 'Sleep Now', wait a second, then wake it back up. Or, unplug the HDMI cable and re-seat it after a second, but that's not advised because you'll eventually wear something out.

Hopefully this fixes the HDCP HDMI bug, where playing ANYTHING gave an HDCP error...

Any chance it will allow you to loop a video continuously? As soon as the AppleTV can do this I'm buying them for kiosks.
