3-in-1 iPad camera connection kit is triple the goodness in one package

Here at TUAW, most of the bloggers are huge fans of devices featuring multiple levels of functionality jammed into one little box (this probably has something to do with a lifelong fascination with Swiss Army Knives.)

That's why there were smiles all around when M.I.C.Gadget, a blog that follows stories about gizmos that are, uh, Made In China, had a story about a new 3-in-1 iPad camera connection kit. As you know, the Apple equivalent sells for US$29 and is made up of two separate dongles. Two dongles = twice as much opportunity to lose one of them.

This little 3-in-1 kit features the USB port and SD card reader that make up the Apple connection kit, but there's one more thing -- a micro-SD card reader as well. Boom! But wait, there's more! The connection kit comes in black or white, which will be a nightmare for people who have problems making decisions.

Want to buy one? They're available for US$29.90 from the M.I.C. Gadget Store, but act now to avoid bitter disappointment. There are only 25 of the kits left in stock as of this morning...

Maybe I'm missing something, but what about just getting a male -> female connector to use with the USB cable that comes with the iPad, then use the card reader of your choice? I don't have one handy — does that not work?

The 5 in 1 iPad Connection Kit is even better. The 3 in 1 is old news. http://www.razoredgecases.com/index.php/default/5-in-1-ipad-connection-kit/5-in-1-ipad-connection-kit.html

exactly Rob E. - an "article" should be answering such questions, not simply advertising a product.

"Curious as to whether or not these will also enable you to connect USB devices. "

They do... IF the device in question is supported by iOS. Some keyboards and audio devices are, for example. Printers, no. The list could go on...

Curious as to whether or not these will also enable you to connect USB devices. I can't see why not. The most appealing thing to me is the micro SD slot, which is what I have in my phone, although I don't know that the iPad will be able to access photos on my micro SD card. I should probably try it first with the current connection kit and an adapter. I was already thinking of adding an adapter to my camera connection kit for the phone's card, so this would really reduce my components from 3 to 1. Also I wonder if it could handle multiple inputs at once, like having a USB keyboard attached while importing photos from an SD card at the same time.

I actually prefer the Apple version since it's the same price. With Apple's two dongles I could let my wife carry around the SD adapter for use with her point and shoot and I could use the USB adapter for use with my (CF card containing) DSLR. Two for the price of one, in my case.

I haven't picked it up yet though, I need to spend a few minutes researching the capabilities of these with the iPhone.
