RapidWeaver giving users trouble, fix has been submitted
Fans of Realmac Software purchased RapidWeaver from the Mac App Store today, only to have trouble with the app. Fortunately, Realmac is aware of the issue and a fix is on the way.
Users took to Twitter to lodge their complaints. One customer wrote, "just bought [RapidWeaver 5] on the app store and I can't edit my RW4 project. The add page dialog is empty and I get missing plugin errors."
We spoke with Nik Fletcher, head of support and QA at Realmac, who assured us that it will be taken care of soon. "The fix is already in with Apple for approval," he said, "and it should be live later today via the [Mac App Store] update mechanism." Indeed, the app's official Twitter stream, which Nik calls "the best thing for people to keep an eye on," confirms this as well.
Sit tight, Rapidweaver users! You'll be back in business in no time.

So Nick, I'm wondering about something you may not be aware of, differences in pricing. Maybe it's a non-US store thing but RW on the Australian (?) App Store is '$47.99' but if I buy it directly from you it's US$39.00 (AU$41.64 if I use the convertor on your site).
But with the AU currently going 1:1 with the US why the huge App Store difference? Looks like someone's keeping two sets of books or Apple's clipping the ticket and if so why bother with the App Store?
Weird.
Yeah but that's life. For years, before the pound became worthless, people in the UK whined about 'paying too much' when iTunes song prices were £0.79 vs. â¬0.99 in eurozone iTunes stores. Now that the shoe's on the other foot, and they are getting a good deal, the cries have died down. I'm guessing that Apple sets artificial exchange rates based on long term historical trends rather than where AUD happens to be vs. USD at this particular moment. This is the responsible thing to do. AUD is a volatile, high-yield, high-risk, carry trade currency, that could quite conceivably be back down at US$0.70 in half a year. Would you still object then, or quietly enjoy a bargain?

There is no industry 'standard' pricing, no reason to keep to music's $1.99 per track to keep all players playing. It is a trivial matter to set currencies in line (with a small margin to allow for weekly settlement fluctuations). Your argument also assumes Apple/the developer will keep the price the same should the currency tank (and it ain't going anywhere for a while) and not increase it to maintain margin. This used to be called 'profiteering'. No they're two different models, only the word 'store' is the same.
So I'll refine the question: why bother with regional App Stores? It's when stuff becomes exclusive to the App Store that it becomes inequitable.
I've already purchased RapidWeaver. How do I tell the App Store that I own it so that I can get my updates through there?

Full details on the 5.0.3 issue can be found here:
http://www.realmacsoftware.com/forums/index.php/forums/viewthread/42415/
Existing users shouldn't worry about the 5.0.3 update as it fixes specific foler-based issues with the App Store build. No other code changes were in this release. When we do release point-updates we will be pushing them out through both the App Store and our own site at the same time.
Thanks
Nik
Odd that the "regular" purchases of RW through the company's website don't allow for an upgrade to 5.0.3, several hours after the update was pushed to the Mac App Store.
Will non App Store buyers become second class citizens? Seems possible, especially since upgrade pricing wasn't lowered in the process of RealMac's PR push about the lower pricing.
5.0.3 is available now in the App Store. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but it lists the missing templates as being fixed.

There should be a way for users to download "not yet approved" submissions from the App Store (Apple could say that it would be "at their own risk") as soon as they are submitted by the developer.
A bug that takes 5 minutes to fix shouldn't need to sit hours or days in Apple's approval queue before it is available.
Mac App Store developers could theoretically have an update immediately available, downloaded directly from their website, but that messes with the purchase history of the Mac App Store mechanism.
Hi Guys
Just to let you know the fix has already been approved by Apple and is now rolling out to the App Store. Keep an eye out for the update in the Updates tab shortly.
Kind Regards,
Nik
