iFrogz shows off cases and headphones at CES 2011

We stopped by the iFrogz booth at this week's CES 2011 here in Las Vegas to see the company's line of cases and headphones for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. We also got to hear some interesting behind-the-scenes information about the business of selling accessories for Apple's devices. The best-selling case color of all time? We heard from multiple companies, including iFrogz, that you can always bet on black. But iFrogz' cases come in a bevy of colors -- "you need something to attract the eye," iFrogz told us. Still, even though you need a whole slew of colors on the shelf, anyone who sells cases knows that black is what sells.

iFrogz' most popular design is the Luxe case -- it's an iconic two-piece design that was released early in the iPhone's life cycle, and customers like the combination of a case that looks good and the function of being able to remove the bottom for easy access to the dock connector. Of course, the Luxe cases are also sold in AT&T stores, and iFrogz said that having cases available right when the device is purchased will always help sales.

iFrogz was also showing off iPad cases -- they're making a "Sport" version of the popular ProVue case (which lets you view and play with your iPad through the case's screen), as well as a case called the Tychoon that uses a special polycarbonate material. We were told that materials change all the time, partially because stronger materials are always being tested and dreamed up, but also because people's interests change. Silicone used to be good for cases, we were told, but these days it's seen as cheap, and people want something a little sturdier around their devices.

We also checked out iFrogz' headphones, including the higher-end Ear Pollution platform, as well as their own branded earpieces. Headphones are mostly a matter of taste, and we didn't actually listen in for audio quality (though most of iFrogz' units sound "good enough" -- anyone really concerned about high quality audio will probably pay a higher premium anyway). Lots of the newest headphones all have mics, designed to work with the iPhone while wearing them.

iFrogz' headphones and cases are mostly a matter of taste -- they're all well made, but it's up to you whether they're something you want to put on or use on your iPhone. We'll look for those new cases and phone models later on this year.

Didn't work for me. Two problems:

1. The "velvety feel" doesn't stand up well to daily use. Mine became all cracked and worn (just the velvety finish). Seems to stand up poorly to pocket friction and the combined heat of your leg on one side of the pocket and the sun on the outside.

2. This is a slider case. That means that if the wrong particle of dust or crud gets in between the case and your phone while sliding on and off, it can cause really ugly scratching and even cracking of your iPhone's acrylic back.

Why were these problems, especially the second not mentioned? The second problem has been covered hear on TUAW, I'm surprised there wouldn't be a line in there warning people, or explaining how that issue doesn't affect this model of the case.

I bought this case on the First day that the iphone 4 was released... was nothing but issues with it .. the biggest being the Fact that on at least the blue case .. the Flash reflects off the case creating a blue tint to every picture that you take.

Had contacted the company and was told they were making the new revisions that took care of the Issue ..

After a few week I got the replacement .. and Wouldnt you guess .. the same exact problem....

yeah skip These Cases or at least Try one before hand if you can .

I bought an iFrogz case for my 3GS and could never get it to fit properly. Wasted way too much time trying to get the round part on the bottom half to fit in the hole of the top half of the case. Finally got frustrated and threw in a drawer 4ever. I will never buy another one of these. Although, they probably have addressed the problem for the iPhone 4, I hope ;)

When i bought my 3GS, I chose an iFrogz Luxe case because i really liked how it looked and felt on the phone. Fit was always just right and it had just the right amount of friction to slide comfortably in and out of my pocket. I was disappointed when the little tabs that connect the top and bottom cracked and broke off the case after a few months of use, but when I wrote an email to the company to see if they could send me a replacement bottom, they promptly sent me a brand new case at no additional cost.

I'm still using that same case 16 months later and it still looks great and I've had no further problems. Great product and great customer service means they will definitely get my business again when I need a case for my next phone.
