Seas0nPass jailbreak app for Apple TV now available
The folks at fireCore have released Seas0nPass, a jailbreak application for the second generation Apple TV. Seas0nPass is a tethered jailbreak solution that requires you to connect your Apple TV to your computer briefly during boot. Similar to the Pwnage tool app, the jailbreak application lets you load custom IPSW files onto your Apple TV. While Seas0nPass is new, fireCore is a name that should be familiar to Apple TV owners. This group also released aTV Flash, a software package that adds streaming services like Last.fm, an HTML 5 web browser and more to the Apple TV. The latest version aTV Flash (black) is in beta and is available as a pre-order for US$19.95. It requires a jailbroken second generation Apple TV.
Unlike aTV Flash, which is available for a nominal fee, Seas0nPass is open source and available for free. The tool was designed for the second generation Apple TV only, so please don't try this with your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. The current version of Seas0nPass is compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 or later. A Windows version is under development and will be available soon.
Interested Apple TV owners can grab the download and pertinent instructions at Seas0nPass.com. The source code is available here on Github. Remember, jailbreaking is inherently risky and the comments on fireCore's website suggest this tool may be riskier than normal. Jailbreaking is done at the sole discretion of the reader, and we assume no responsibility for bricked Apple TVs.

The point is, you can root the TV. I have a theme on mine :)

I hope you mean you just have to reinstall the default software and re-enter your network set up and any other saved passwords. This initial part of the jailbreak process works fine it the tethered booting process that requires some patience and a few more screen grabs and additional instructions to make is successful. The beat version of aTVFlash add some functionality with more to come. In don't work for them! If you are familiar with aTV Flash for the first gen Apple TV you know we are not going to be left out in the cold. I would say tis jail break is a walk in the park but if you are familiar with the jailbreak proceeds on other iOS devices this one seems like a walk in the park. I enjoy the RSS feeds and to be honest the weather feature. Great way to read news and get the handle on the weather prior to have to get out of bed! The only problem is I don't have a coffee maker in my bed room. LOL :) I say enjoy the tech geekery of it for what it's worth. Cheers aTVFlash (black)

Bricking not bridling. It is the tethered booting process... The (black) version of aTVFlash... adds some functionality... I don't work for aTVFlash... Jailbreak process... prior to having to get out of bed...
Don't attempt typing blog post prior to your first cup of coffee!! Forgive me for the dribble!!
FireCore has released a beta of their aTV (black) product which adds functionality to the standard ATV (Plex client, web browsing, etc.). To use their software, one must Jail Break their ATV. At the moment, the JB for iOS 4.2.1 can only be accomplished using a tethered technique. The Seas0nPass utility mentioned in this article is intended to simplify this process until an untethered capability is released.

This is a just a jailbreak doesn't add anything. The few apps available in my opinion are poor. Really see no point jail-breaking now.
If you look at the official forums for this you'll see that this doesn't work for 99% of the people and lots are left with bricked Apple TVs. Id say stay away from this for now.
So does this actually do anything, or is it just a plain old jailbreak? Is it just a means to jailbreak before installing one of their paid apps for the Apple TV? I'm just not sure why I'd want to jailbreak right now when jailbreaking doesn't really add anything.
