iTunes offers five hit albums for $6.99 this weekend

If you needed to pick up Katy Perry's Teenage Dream or Ke$ha's Cannibal to make your 2011 music collection complete, now would be the time. Apple is promoting those two albums and three more with a $6.99 sale through January 24.

These and more are featured in iTunes' Albums Under $8 section -- and, as the mailer points out, they're a great way to chew through those iTunes gift cards that showed up under the tree.

Hell, I'm 14 (granted I hate most of the "radio" music but I do have to hear this crap whenever Im dragged into a school dance) and Ke$ha makes me want to dig my eardrums out of my head and go deaf.

TL;DR I'm in "the target audience" and this stuff makes me suicidal.

If you want a test drive of Tame Impala, check out their free podcasts. I saw their show here in Seattle last month and it was incredible.

Ke$ha - absolutely god awful. No talent.
Why can't we have a musical revolution like during the 70's?

I don't think these album selection were meant for us. Teens spend the most money on music and games. Demographics.

Glad I gave this article a read. I got the email from Apple yesterday or the day before and I gave it an immediate pass based on the fact that I've only heard of two of those artists, and I have no interest in purchasing their music, BUT after reading this article I found the full "Albums under $8" section and there's some solid stuff in there: Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Journey, Elton John, REM, The Doors, Rush, etc....

So, it does indeed beg the question, how is Apple choosing their marketing demographics on these things?

Love the Tame Impala album, was listening to it on my commute this morning. Have a listen to the samples if you're curious!

Odd to see Tame Impala included with the others. They're fairly good. An Aussie band that sounds like if John Lennon fronted a psychedelic rock band.

it's interesting to compare apple's sales to amazon's, and to make guesses on their target demographics based on each. for instance, i have zero desire to spend any money on any of the artists in apple's sale, but two days ago i bought the brand new decemberists album from amazon for $3.99.

apple, i love you, but you just can't compete when it comes to music sales as far as i'm concerned.

Agreed. When I see the amount of TV, music and movie downloads from iTunes it blows my mind. Why wouldn't you want the same/better quality music at a cheaper price. The other stuff, maybe for convenience sake... who knows.
I follow amazon music on twitter and they routinely offer the best deals for digital music this side of pirating.
