Pixelmator grosses $1 million in Mac App Store after 20 days
After just 20 days in the Mac App Store, the Pixelmator team announced that it has grossed more than $1 million through sales. When the Mac App Store launched Jan. 6, the software was made available exclusively through it.
Pixelmator is currently the fourth top-grossing app in the Mac App Store. Only Pages, iPhoto and Aperture come in higher. Pixelmator is still on sale for US$29.99.

Pixelmator won't replace Photoshop, but it's going to put a serious dent in Adobe's profits. I bought Pixelmator when it first came out...and I never found a reason to upgrade my Photoshop CS4 license. The Pixelmator team deserve congratulations for their hard work and their excellent app. :)
Don
$1 mil. Good. Now maybe they can add CMYK.

January 25 2011 at 6:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyPixelmator is a great app, and I have been using it since it was in beta. I paid full price, and it was totally worth it.
Just goes to prove to smaller app developers that they can carve out share from the big boys by offering something different with a better value. Lord knows, Photoshop is overkill for 90% of the people who own it, I'd bet.
Still a bit confused about updates. I had Pixelmator before it's available in the App Store, and today I could update it to 1.6.4. The update window actually mentioned the App Store ("download, redownload, keep track of..."), but couldn't figure out what they mean about it. My version is the very same of the App Store right now. It's a great software, I love it, but they are really expecting us to pay again for the "same" version.

January 25 2011 at 3:08 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm glad to hear their having such great success. It was a gutsy move on their part to basically halve the price and hope to make up the difference in volume. It's a great piece of software (the only Mac Heist product I actually use) and with their recent success it should get even better.

Now, they are backsliding down the charts. Too bad. I missed the $30 window, but I keep hoping they bring the price back to $30 so sales will skyrocket again.
Good for pixelmator for this surely good news for them. Who can argue with a million box?
"is currently the third top-grossing app in the Mac App Store. Only Pages, iPhoto and Aperture come in higher"
Wouldn't that put it fourth?
Let me see...
1) Pages
2) iPhoto
3) Aperture
4) Pixelmator
Yeah, I think Pixelmator would be 4th.
