Macworld Expo 2011: SuperSync sticks with what it knows

SuperSync had a nice booth at last week's Macworld Expo 2011 conference. In addition to a demo of the software on our livestream, we also chatted with the developer about how SuperSync (which allows you to share and view multiple iTunes libraries across PCs and platforms) was doing lately. The most recent version is 4.01, a bug fix release that also added the ability to browse video across libraries and support for multiple formats.
SuperSync is not a cloud service; it's designed to control and view actual files across multiple computers rather than keep them up to date with a cloud server elsewhere. You can listen to music stored on other iTunes libraries with the app, but its main job is to keep everything current in all of the places it's installed on a network. Cloud syncing is something SuperSync is looking at, and backup storage is "one area we're going to keep looking at," according to the dev. For now, the purpose of SuperSync is to sync, not store. If Apple does announce a cloud-based iTunes solution this year, SuperSync will likely find a way to work outside of it.
Finally, I asked if the developer was looking at releasing SuperSync in the Mac App Store. It's being considered, though there are a few obstacles. Licensing is one; SuperSync sells two-license packs for US$25, and those are meant to be installed on multiple computers, possibly including a Windows PC. It's unclear how that would work on Apple's Mac App Store platform. Plus, the app "uses a lot of Java, so I'm not sure if we would qualify" for approval in the store in the current build. Still, getting featured by Apple would give the app a big advantage (a statement we heard from multiple developers last week), so it's a possibility, remote as it may be.

Yup... Supersync made a mess of my libraries too... I first tried a sync on about 100 songs and everything went well. So I tried it on the rest of my 20,000 song library. Hoo boy. Now I've completely deleted the library on my PC and am in the process of moving everything over from my Mac.
Ugh. I should have known better. There is no quick fix.
And another one. After using it for a while, the local Library now contains up to 5 files (Called something like "foo.m4a" "foo 2.m4a", "foo 3.m4a" etc.). It seems that for some items, every time you try to sync, it just ads another copy.

It will download stuff you tell it not to, display wrong items (e.g. select an item in one part and it is displayed as quite something else in the upper part of the window). Does not sync the playlists. Does its work incompletely at a regular basis. Pretty unsatisfied so far.

Does SuperSync sync the backup info from the iDevices (like settings inside the apps, etc.) between computers?
I was hoping to be able to use any of my computers to sync the iPhone or iPad and always have the most recent backup (sync info) on the machine I use.
Using a MacBook Pro and Mac Pro.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Jose @SuperSync,
Who is the developer of Syper Sync? I was trying to reach out and could not as there is not contact info on the website. Can you help?
Thanks!
Rudina,
You can contact us via our website's contact us link. I have also sent you my direct contact info as well.
super sync looks great. Does anyone know if it also syncs your iPhone / iPad Backups so you can plug and sync your device with any of your computers?

This is Jose @ SuperSync. I saw your question and wanted to help =)
iDevice/computer syncing is a one-way sync (from your iDevice to your computer). This allows you to get your iDevice's media content to an iTunes Library that isn't paired with your iDevice.
I hope this helps! =)
I've had trouble in the past keeping my music and movies in order. Having it spread amongst all the gear I have has been a large pain in the behind. A friend recommended SuperSync about 9 months ago and I love it! After I got it setup, which wasn't very hard, and let it do it's thing my libraries were magically dealt with and I didn't have to sit there and dig through everything myself. Now if only it would work with iPhoto!
