Ask TUAW Video Edition: Syncing music with Android Phones
This week, another Matt asks how to sync his iTunes music and videos to his new Android-based phone. In the video we show two very simple to use applications that can accomplish the task.
Applications mentioned in this video:
- doubleTwist - free for wired sync, US$4.99 for wireless sync
- Salling Media Sync - $14.95 and available through the App Store
Remember, you can leave us questions in the comments! The video is on the next page.

I signed up for MobileMe in late December, and have fallen in love with it over the last two months. However, my free ride is over, and I will have to start paying for it come this weekend.
But after reading your article today on the imminent introduction of a free MobileMe, I am torn: should I sign up and possibly throw $100 down the drain? Should I give up a service that I use often, and hope that it is unleashed on the world sooner rather than later? If I signed up, and it went free, would Apple be inclined to refund me for the remaining months of the year (Apple seems like the kind of company who WOULDN'T do that...)
HELP! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
DoubleTwist playlist support is broken. If you make a change to a playlist in iTunes, that change is not reflected in DoubleTwist. Same goes for new playlists, and deleted playlists. Since the changes are not reflected in DT, they are not synced to the phone. There is a thread on the DT forums discussing this problem at:

iSyncr needs a good graphic designer, but works awesome for iTunes -> Android sync.
I was wondering if there was a good solution for getting 5.1 surround sound out of my iMac (USB Maybe)
I have these logitech speakers that have 3 separate headphone jack sized connectors so optical audio is out.
I googled and search but everything seems to be out dated
Thanks!
I don't want to have to drag and drop songs to my phone. I do it the way I used to do for my 1GB Nano....
Setup a phone playlist that has the songs I want on the phone
Setup a smart playlist that is random from all songs in my library that's, say 13GB.
I have iSyncr sync those 2 playlists. I can update them in iTunes and they will sync. ISyncr will update play counts in iTunes and transfers album art too.
You can do that with Salling Media Sync - you make a playlist in iTunes, and sync that playlist with your Android device.

I tried Doubletwist - ouch tat was painful. Sailing was out of the question at $15.
Grab a copy of iSyncr - fast, cheap and works great.
What problems were you having with doubleTwist? It should be as easy and dragging songs from the library right to your phone, the same way iTunes does with an iPod?
I will check out iSyncr and put it in the update.
I agree. I tried double twist for the mac when it was in beta and it was a painful experience. I've heard that now it is far better, but I suppose thats what betas are for.
