GreenPois0n jailbreak goes untethered for Apple TV

The Chronic Dev team of eager iOS hackers at GreenPois0n has announced an untethered jailbreak for the current Apple TV in the form of RC6 of the eponymous utility. This new build features contributions from the NitoTV team to enable the tetherless feature.

Up until RC6, most iOS 4.2 jailbreak tools for Apple TV performed a tethered jailbreak, meaning you would have to connect your device to your Mac or PC on reboot to get it to start up properly. While this wasn't a huge issue with the ATV (you could simply set it not to sleep), it could be a pain in the neck with iPhones and iPod touches if they lost all charge and needed to be restarted. Past revs of GreenPois0n added untethered JBs for the other devices, but this is the first build that will untether the ATV.

I successfully used Seas0nPass to jailbreak my ATV last week, but I may restore it back to normal to give GreenPois0n a try.

any reports of bricking the ATV2 with this jailbreak? Many reports of bricking with the Firecore ATV2 JB.

What features does the jailbreak add to the ATV2? If games were ported over from iphone I think i'd be down with it but from what i read elsewhere that may be just around the corner.

You literally click one button. They tell you how to put your device into DFU mode (which involves the a really, really difficult task called "holding down the buttons they tell you" and then it involves (GASP!) WAITING A FEW SECONDS.

I'm just messing with you, but for real, those are the actual steps. You click "yes" or "no" for "Are you jailbreaking an Apple TV?" then you hold click "Jailbreak," hold down a few buttons on your device, wait, and boom, you're done.

I expect pwnagetool and redsnow to both be updated with the
greenpoison exploit as the chronic dev team said the iphone dev team
could use the code once they open source it.

As for unlock, who the hell knows when or if.

I wouldn't worry about restoring it.. I just jailbroke my iphone with Greenpois0n after it was already done with pwnagetool and it worked totally fine.

Any word on a 4.2.1 Jailbreak and unlock? If not, I'm assuming pwnage tool will allow this in the near future.

Anyone had any success using this with the atv2? I tried this afternoon but couldn't get it to enter DFU mode. Everything seemed to work, but when i let go of menu + play/pause, GP would just say 'try again'.
