Kickstarter-sponsored WALdok is a speaker dock that plugs into your wall

It takes quite a bit for me to be impressed with yet another speaker dock. I run my music through some pretty good PC speakers, so I don't really have a need for a separate speaker to play music directly from my iPhone. But something about the WALdok appeals to me. It's a tiny dock that plugs into the wall and gives you what sounds like a surprisingly powerful speaker anywhere you have an outlet. Combine it with the nano, as you can see above, and I think I might be sold on a tiny and simple solution for something like a workspace or a hobby room.

The whole project is being funded through Kickstarter, which means it's just an idea that someone had and ran with. For pledging US$59 or more, you get access to one of the first units off the assembly line, and you get to read about the product as it's made and designed on the process blog.

This definitely doesn't seem like just another dock. The project is aiming for $30,000; it's nailed down just over half of that so far, but I don't think they'll have a problem getting a few units out there to start.

I wish they had this one with a European socket.

After my experience with one Kickstarter project (a watch band deal - you figure it out), I will never jump in again. I pledged $150 because I wanted a red and regular one... and it was supposed to arrive in January - then shifted to February. It is the 20th of February and still no delivery. Mix up with fulfilment! And no way to track my and several thousand others.

Next time, I'll wait on the product in the store. And pay regular retail.

@L3 - it's an orchid and it isn't neglected - it is dormant, waiting to flower again.

This idea is OK... I don't think I would go bonkers on it. Want to hear them first.

What's the deal with that photo? Mirror? Neglected plant?

I'm with Parker n Charlie. I want that red LED to pulse and I need a H.A.L. soundbite mp3 asap!

I kinda like the genera idea but at least here in germany all the sockets are like 15cm (6") above the floor so I'm not sure how that would actually influence the sound quality…

Actually, they are close to being fully funded. I've pledged my support, this will be ideal for the bathroom and the garage.

- Kickstarter requires much more than just "an idea someone had and ran with."

- "...I don't think they'll have a problem getting a few units out there to start."

The creator doesn't get the money until the goal is reached. So, yes, I think they might have a problem "getting a few units out there to start" and eating the cost.

- Everything Mike Schramm writes is hilariously bad and uninformed sounding.

i liked it, but i don't think these tiny speakers are able to produce a powerful dynamic sound effect.
