Original iPad reduced to $399/$349 refurb

Apple is clearing out original iPad inventory, starting at just $399 for a new unit or $349 for a refurb. If you have a mom, a grandfather, kids, whatever, seriously, what are you waiting for? No matter how amazing the iPad 2 is (and it's lovely, really it is), this is an insanely good price for a device that's wickedly wonderful. From reading to games to email to browsing, the old iPad isn't going to stop being useful any time soon.

Buy one soon, before channels clear out, and before I give into the urge to pick up a few myself -- a move that would thrill my children and imperil my marriage.

I personally own the 16 GB Wi-Fi unit and have never found the lack of onboard storage to be an issue, especially with great apps like Air Video and LogMeIn out there to help connect my iPad to movies and resources from back on my Mac.

Funny, iPads 1 refurbished are now more expensive than new iPads 1 (at least in the German Apple Online Store).

I've always wondered how much storage I needed on an ipad. It's interesting that you're using a 16 GB unit.

@John Parkinson: Apple usually update the UK refurb store just after midnight. Presumably they will cut the price on the refurb soon, hopefully this evening. If they take the same £100 off it, £279 on a refurb sounds a pretty good deal.

The best part of this announcement was going to gazelle.com mid-keynote and finding they'd give me $375 for my 16 gig Wifi iPad 1. Combined with a TWiT promo code, I'll be upgrading to the iPad 2 for $100 out of pocket.

UK store quoting £329 for 16GB wifi but are quoting £379 for a refurb version of the same model?? seems a bit bonkers ;)

Are you a share holder, by chance? For an extra $100 you get 2 cameras, twice the speed and more.

And a year more of updates, too. Apple tends to put new features only in new products. If you want to use the new version of iMovie announced with the iPad you need iPad 2.

Says 429. Mistake? Can't be a higher price then a new one?
