Rumor: Seventh-generation iPod nano to add rear-facing camera

Apple.pro has posted an image, which it claims is the rear casing for the next iPod nano. The purported casing shows a hole that would house a rear-facing camera. Apple.pro has a history with iPod nano rumors, as they were the first to post an image of a small touchscreen that later made its way into the sixth-generation iPod nano that debuted last fall.

As noted by MacRumors, when the sixth-generation iPod nano was unveiled, many loved its new form factor, but some lamented over the loss of the camera that was found in the fifth-generation iPod nano. If Apple.pro's image is legitimate, it looks like Apple is trying to combine the best features of the two previous nanos into one. MacRumors does note that the camera hole would be obscured by the current clip on the iPod nano, but it's likely that Apple will just narrow the clip to make way for an unobstructed camera view.

Yes, everything needs a camera, maybe even shoes. No, especially shoes.

A nano with a clickwheel and a screen is really the only worthwhile one. If people want a touchscreen & camera, they'll just get an iPod Touch. If they want their music to be portable and easy to select, they want the last generation nano, not this square toy they've been underselling for a year.

It just occured to me that this color isn't currently offered, rather, was part of the 6th-gens 10-color epicness... (There is a green one offered now but it's lime and not gross.)

Well not really epic, this was the worst color.

EWWW.

So they must be bringing back all of the colors again.

Well. Hmmm.. okay I may as well say it since this has leaked

The new nano will also have a front facing camera and be capable of FaceTime. It will be the first implementation of Apple's in screen camera patent.

It is to be shown as the "one more thing" and reference Dick Tracy. Steve will pull back his sleeve and initiate a voice activated video call using a watch case.

There is no clip leaving it open to accessory makers to make cases with clips for people who want it

I heard that hole was originally for the Nano media player and blood sugar monitor. Initially designed by Apple and targeted for diabetic iTunes users.

While wearing the Nano on a watch band, using a special free app available in the AppStore, when the screen was tapped a 1/2 inch needle would spring out the back of the Nano into the wearer's arm sampling his blood for sugar content analysis which would then be stored on the Nano for later transfer to iTunes when the owner syncs.

A half-inch needle? Heck, why don't they just include a hose, too? Really though, you missed April 1st, so uhh, no.

To add a rear facing camera? More like put it back because so many people complained about it.

I work in retail and when the current nanos hit the shelves, people wanted to know where our old ones were, even offering more than the new nano to secure one. Sure, we have sold a few of the new form nanos, but the popularity of Apples previous design is apparent.

If it was up to me, the current iPod Nano would actually be the iPod Shuffle, and instead would have a 'touch' click wheel, if that makes sense. And camera... duh

It also means they are bringing back video playback...

Would be great if it was the same found in the iPod touch, capable of recording 720p.

Of course, would have been cooler if the screen was returned to the 5th gen nano's size and resolution... YET still remained a touchscreen.

:-/

Oh well... A small square screen isn't so fun.
