Printopia updated with customised settings and security

I've been a big fan of Printopia since it first came out. It allows you to print from an iOS device to any printer on a wireless network or directly connected to a Mac.
After Apple's half-hearted AirPrint feature was launched, people were pretty upset to learn that it worked on only a handful of HP printers. Printopia fixed that with an app that sits in your system preference window, and gets you printing to just about any printer you have. The app requires a Wi-Fi network for connectivity.
The new version adds password security, unlimited virtual printers, and some new customization options giving users full access to printer settings, like page size, paper tray and color settings. It retains the print to Mac function which sends a JPEG or PDF to your Mac, and also allows you to send JPEG and PDFs to Dropbox or Evernote. I've used the original version since it came out and it has been flawless. Current owners can get the update for free by clicking on Printopia in System Preferences, new users will pay US$19.95 and anyone can try a 7 day free trial.

I don't understand the poke at AirPrint. I'm able to print from my iPhone and iPad to my Canon PIXMA MX860 with no difficulty.

I did this yesterday and it worked perfectly!
AirPrint Activator does it for free..

Printopia is a solid solution, we use it at the moment and are about to extend that to a suite of iPads.
As opposed to jailbreak or switching to another app it provides the as "keynote advertised" solution.
It also highlights which apps haven't taken on AirPrint, namely a lot. Strange ones too, like docs2go
I like e-print ...... I can print to any printer on a network that has Bonjour enabled, or is a shared printer from a Mac .... directly form my iPad or iPhone.
Works GREAT! Dont know why more people dont know about it or use it. (Though it is difficult to find on the app store)
Still sucks that the drivers can't be put into the firmware of an Airport Extreme base station, because I don't always have my laptop (my sole Mac) on.

Highly recommended.
Oh, the printer I bought was a LaserJet Pro M1212nf. I bought it because it was cheapest B&W HP(I like HPs) laser printer I could find that did ethernet printing. (on sale + trade in of my old broken HP made it super cheap)

April 17 2011 at 2:31 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyhuh? I just had to turn on printer sharing on my mac than share my printer and I can AirPrint to it all I want... it's an HP, but not one of the airprint capable ones (and it doesn't have wifi, it's connected via Ethernet)
April 15 2011 at 5:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI didnât think AirPrint was half-hearted at all⦠but maybe thatâs because I just happened to buy an HP printer a month or so before AirPrint was announced. So, lucky me! What I also like about this printer â not to get off on a tangent â is that it has its own email address, so you can email it from wherever you are for printing back at home. Very cool.
