Dear Aunt TUAW: Help me find a projector for my iPhone

Dear Aunt TUAW,

I sometimes watch TV in my bedroom on my iPhone (3GS) via EyeTV before I go to sleep. The screen is, of course, a bit small and not ideally positioned for a relaxed posture in bed. What's your idea on pico projectors in combination with an iPhone (3GS)?

Many thanks and best regards

Your loving nephew,

Bob

Dear Bob,

Auntie punted your question over to Steve Hardy at WowWee, better known as my Cinemin go-to guy. He writes, "Well, I'm biased obviously, but I would recommend to Bob the Cinemin Slice (for richer sound) or Cinemin Swivel (for better portability). The 90-degree hinge is perfect for projecting onto the ceiling. And they're both compatible with the iPhone 3GS."

Hope that helps! And let us know how they work for you in real-world testing.

Hugs,

Auntie T.

The optoma projects work pretty well. In fact, a company recently used a series of these projectors aimed at a transparent cone to create holograms that can be viewed from any angle and updated in realtime.

Places like Tiger Direct carry the 101 for under $100. You get two rechargeable battery packs and an iPod Docking Port adapter that lets you use pretty much any mini-plug video adapter.

At those prices you might be better off trading in the touch for a 1st gen iPad.

To be honest I think the best option right now is aaxa tech's M2 it is brighter + less expensive than both the PK301, the Samsung and the Wowwee. It is the Most powerful projector on the market in it's class @ 110 lumens... do your self favor get the M2 and use the extra cash to rent movies to watch!

I got an Optoma PK301 on Woot and use it with the HDMI adapter for iPhone 4. It works really well for nighttime viewing. I have a base with a pivot that I use to project onto my ceiling but any camera tripod will work with it. The specs look a lot better than the wowwee one, it is 720p and 50 lumens. The image quality is really good especially considereing the size of the projector.
