Drum sticks, guitar picks for GarageBand for iPad needs support

Aspiring musicians with a gentle touch should check out this project from the Australian group behind the Wallee mount for the iPad. The designers are developing rubberized accessories, branded Pix & Stix, to be used with GarageBand on the iPad 2. The project includes a pair of drum sticks and a guitar pick that lets you use the iPad like a real instrument. Both the sticks and the guitar pick include electro-conductive rubber tips compatible with the iPad's capacitive touchscreen display.

The group is selling a set of two sticks and one pick for US$14.95 in a project that is funded similar to Kickstarter. The group is now accepting pre-orders and production will begin when the project reaches its funding goal. If not enough people jump on the Pix & Stix bandwagon, then your money will be refunded after 30 days. Besides this $15 price tag, iPad musicians may want to figure in the cost of a rider policy that covers cracked screens resulting from an overenthusiastic drum solo.

"to be used with GarageBand on the iPad 2"

Why not on the 1st-gen iPad? Garageband works fine on mine. Just another example of TUAW idiocy in posting before thinking.

"Idiocy" was a little harsh, but there's no reason to exclude the 1st-gen iPad when it does in fact run GarageBand.

This looks like a TERRIBLE idea.
Talking to tech support: I dont know, I was just using garageband and the screen broke.

Yeah I'm calling that a few people will try to use these drum sticks like real ones and pound away at the glass. Then we'll have to heard some sort of disclaimer from the manufacturer saying you can't use them like that.. then that'd be reminiscent of the whole Wii wristband thing..

Add this to the list of items to never see the light of day inside an Apple Store

What a great idea. Pound away on a glass surface with drum sticks. Regardless of the rubber tip I can see a few people damaging the screen and then trying to start a lawsuit against Apple (even though they are not the manufacturer of the drum sticks).

For plenty of people this is a great solution. They know how to be gentle and careful, but using drumsticks gives them a much better feel than using their fingertips. The problem with just using your fingers is that you have to play each drum like it's a bongo, djembe or some other kind of hand drum. Yes there will be idiots that smash the glass with this, but if you're not banging away at it you should be fine.

Please do not buy this product. There will be so many broken iPads.
