Foodish takes the calorie counting out of meal tracking
We've looked at various food journals for iOS in the past, and Foodish is the latest entry into this market. It's a food diary that focuses more on providing you a visual record of what you've eaten rather than counting calories.
It's pretty easy to use and has an attractive UI. Launch the app, tap the add button and take a picture of your food or drink. You can group these into meals or snacks, and select whether or not you think you've made a good food choice by tapping a facial expression. You can share the pictures of your meal via Facebook or Twitter.
It's a good, basic program to use if you want to keep a food diary but don't care to count calories. Personally, I gravitate toward more feature-laden programs, such as Lose It (free), and I've also been using the Weight Watchers Mobile app (free download, requires subscription for food tracking) for keeping my food record since December.
Foodish is US $3.99 in the App Store.

Besides their device, Fitbit also has a great web app for tracking your food and weight. Fitbit accounts are free and that app makes it easy to log your meals. Fitbit.com to sign up, m.fitbit.com to use the mobile version.

I eat a wide variety of foods; I enjoy eclectic cuisine. Calories for such items are usually not in the database or have to be manually entered, and the portion sizes are never right. It seems to me there has to be a better way.

It's kind of an oxymoron to have an 'easy' calorie counter. If you can't be bothered to enter in the calories accurately you're not serious about losing the weight...

Also, remember, just eating better won't be enough. Go running too (and use runkeeper)
(used these two to lose 60 lbs)
another loseit user here -- for 2 years now. have lost (and kept off) about 25 pounds. i'll second everything that james (#1) said. it really made me realize where my calories came from, and how much food a proper serving is for everything i eat.
but i call shenanigans on this "foodish" app -- just from the photo of it. that coffee is a "smiley"? no way. all that chocolate and cream in a coffee would be a big calorie hit, and there's no way a photo of something could judge either way.
I've been using LoseIt for about 6 months now and it has been a HUGE success. I recommend it for anyone trying to lose weight. It's more than just counting calories, its about realizing where your calories come from and how you can easily shift those to smarter choices. Really great app, but I'll have to check this one out once I get more comfortable with my calorie intake.
