NYPost: Apple paying major music labels up to $150 million for rights to music on iCloud

The New York Post is reporting that three separate sources have told them Apple is paying the big four music labels between $100-150 million for the rights to distribute their music through the new iCloud service, which is set to debut on Monday. Their sources say that each label will get between $25-50 million depending on the number of tracks iTunes users are storing.
On Tuesday, Apple issued a press release stating that Steve Jobs will unveil the iCloud service on June 6. iCloud is widely expected to be a cloud-based digital locker that allows users to stream any music they own to any device they own. Apple has been aggressively working on deals with the major music labels for a while now, first getting Warner, then EMI and Sony to get on board. The last holdout, Universal, is rumored to have signed with Apple late last week. With up to a $50 million signing bonus, any cash-strapped music label would be crazy not to accept Apple's offer.

They pay well not for the worth of the music at all but their own concepts of inspiration to the fans . Yes that is what the fans want something to blabber about not what they hear or perhaps they never heard ,Like Michale Jackson who never was a musician nor a singer of class .Fans are like insects flying round a neon light entranced in it until you change the lights. And the American Idol judges, only because they are popular way out but as if they knew a thing or two. Where is the musician or the singer the maestro but concealed in the back drops and alley ways of the night life irking out a meager living . Music evokes thought when you listen and not more than a few only can understand not a crowd not an audience. Which simply means they are all faking their applause and the prize goes somewhere else. and people spend in thousands to equip themselves with high fies and cant even think while the music plays. The prophet knew they cannot hear when they see, and cannot see when they hear and they think he speaks in many languages because they cant hear the words he speaks but only the beeps that reach their ears and translated into words by their brain And they say amongst themselves that he speaks in many languages at the same time. Even in my own language did I hear the word of god They say. Such is the falsity of the masses.

If I've bought my music already, why should I have to pay to listen to it over a WiFi connection? Why should I get charged to do it by Apple? I honestly don't know why Apple hasn't released something similar to AirPlay where i can hook up to a WiFi network (at work) and listen to my entire iTunes library from home. Well, other than because they want to charge for the ability to do it.

It has to be SOMETHING different, because the rumors so far all sound EXACTLY LIKE what Amazon is offering.
Pretty smart of Jobs if they did that. Any amount of lead time over Spotify will only entrench themselves to people who want all music on a subscription basis. Now imagine that not only do you get that music, but streamable anywhere, and able to take it offline on your ipod.
Now that's pretty damned cool and if they offer lossless or higher quality versions with this service it's gonna be pretty cool. I can't wait to see how it works. If they offer totally wireless syncing of your device via the iCloud service to your iTunes account it will be even cooler.
Gotta love the $50 mil "singing" bonus.... :)

June 03 2011 at 4:02 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyLa La had engineers that made it possible to recognize huge amounts of songs and the system to synchronize it with your local iTunes account. They also had deals in place with most music providers which I'm sure made it easier to pull of the deals they have now completed. Amazon's service is nice, but if Apple is able to over much larger amounts of storage for cheap (hopefully) then they will have a problem on their hands (Amazon that is).
