iCloud named as successor to MobileMe, will be free service

Steve Jobs unveiled the new iCloud service at WWDC today. iCloud stores a user's content in the cloud and wirelessly pushes that content to all devices. The services will be free with no ads and be completely integrated with the apps found in MobileMe -- and they've all been rewritten from the ground up. Contacts and calendars that are created or modified on one device are pushed to the cloud, and the changes propagate on all other devices instantly. Calendars have also had sharing features added so that you can send them to friends or coworkers.
iCloud also allows users to propagate app and iBooks purchases across devices. Purchase an iBook on your iPad, tap the new iCloud button, and the same book will be downloaded on your iPhone, for example. iCloud also features deep backup sets and automatically performs daily backups over Wi-Fi. Backups include music, books, apps, camera roll, device settings and app data.
iCloud also features an app called "Documents." When you create a new document in Pages, Keynote or Numbers, that document is automatically pushed to all the devices the user has Pages, Keynote or Numbers on. The iCloud Documents APIs will be made available to developers so that they can build the feature into their apps.
Another new feature: in the Photos iOS app there is a new album called Photo Stream, which allows any photos taken on any devices to be pushed to your other devices automatically. The last 1,000 photos will be stored on the cloud for 30 days and then be deleted from the cloud. In that time, you have the option of permanently saving any of those photos to any device you own. Finally, Apple has extended iCloud capabilities to iTunes. You can re-download (for free) any song you have previously purchased in iTunes on up to 10 devices that you own.
"We're making it free, and we're very excited about it. So that's iCloud. It stores your content and pushes it to all of your devices, and it's integrated with all your apps," Steve Jobs told the packed theater at WWDC.

What I need the ability to do, and can do with MobileMe now, is transpose some of my work content from my work Outlook account to my iPhone. I can't do it directly, my employer won't let me. So MobileMe acts as a go between. I can log onto MobileMe from my work browser and copy and paste from Outlook to MobileMe, which then syncs to my iPhone.
Without MobileMe the process described above wold be very tedious. I would need to retype everything.
How can I do this in iCloud? I don't think there is a way right now. I hope there's a web version of iCloud in the future so I can bridge the gap.
I have a second generation iPod Touch.. When I switch over to an iCloud account from my Mobile Me account will I be able to sync my E-mail, calendars and my Safari Bookmarks to my iPod Touch which is only able to run IOS 4.2.1?

It could work just like the desktop version of Safari: if a link was tapped or clicked on that points to an unrecognized MIME type, it could give you the option of downloading to a "Downloads" folder on iCloud, henceforth accessible on any other device in the same fashion as the various other iCloud services. They wouldn't even have to *really* download the file to the device where bandwidth might be a concern (like on an iPhone), as it would be sufficient to send the URL and any pertinent session data to iCloud.
For that matter, this fictitious file download capability could be linked (via a setting, say) to any alternate storage backend, and not just iCloud: just as apps can already register to respond to certain MIME types (or maybe just protocols; if I've got that part wrong, then let's throw in the ability for apps to register with a MIME type while we're at it), an app could register to respond to any unrecognized MIME type. This would allow, for example, the Dropbox app to catch any unrecognized MIME types and save them to your Dropbox folder.
For the user this would be as intuitive as tapping or clicking on a link, and their downloaded files would be accessible on all of their devices. For the app developer, this would be as simple as an `Info.plist' entry akin to `Accept: */*', and some appropriately implemented handling code.
We'll never really be PC-free until we can do arbitrary things with arbitrary data on our devices, and file downloading would bring us one big step closer.
I'm using local folders to store important emails on my iMac. Are local folders synced via iCloud too?

speaking of the idisk: will that be available or cancelled altogether?
According to Apple's iCloud pages:
"Mail that delivers. Free.
When you set up iCloud, you get a free me.com email account. iCloud automatically pushes new email messages to all your devices, so your inbox is up to date everywhere you check it. And iCloud keeps all your folders in sync, no matter which device you’re using."
free me.com email??
