iPad display stand adds Apple Store charm

This is cute. The iPad 2 display dock is a new product by a company called New PC Gadgets that's basically a dock for your iPad 2 that looks just like the ones holding the devices in Apple Stores. Sure, it'll hold your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad 2 with panache and allow you to use it at an angle, but more importantly, it looks just like the real thing! You, too, can pretend you live in an Apple Store, but without all of the employees and customers around.

The stand is US$74.95, which is obviously pricy for a display dock of any kind, much less one with as little functionality as this one. But, and we're repeating ourselves here, it looks like an Apple Store stand. That's worth it, right?

i tried looking in the apple store the other day, How is the iPad powered/connected??
these look the same in that the connector goes into the apple logo on the back!
it seemed apple have custom iPads for this purpose. these look the same!

I'll tell you how.
they built a custom cable. it looks like its plugged into the apple on the back, but it really has a thin black ribbon that extends from the normal dock connector head and plugs into the regular dock connecter on the ipad. there is no special ipad just a special cable.

my thought now is whether or not this dock will come with that special cable to charge it. My company is very interested in purchasing at least 5 of these.

Well when you buy them by the bulk load you wouldn't expect them to sell them for that much. It is a bit of a rip off, but I can see these being used at places that need an ipad in a stand that is a bit more secure and can not be turned off easily.

If I remember correctly from my time at Apple, replacing an acrylic display case in the store would often cost around $100. Most people wouldn't believe how much that company pays for the little details that we'd never think twice about!
