Conan O'Brien blasts Final Cut Pro X

Apple released Final Cut Pro X this week. Despite the price drop, many users were disappointed with this version, and others were downright upset. Heck, even host Conan O'Brien blasted the software on his late-night TV show.

Conan notes that this update is "so different," that editors are having trouble adjusting. He then shows a parody video that his team assembled using the new version of Final Cut. Hilarity ensues (depending on your perspective).

When a late-night talk show parodies high-end video editing software that most of its audience does not use, said software is either really, really good or ... well, you know.

Notice how every joke was placed exactly where needed?

I don't see where Conan was "blasting" Final Cut. They took a topic that is hot in the news and over-exaggerated the faults, perceived or real. it's what they do. I was amused, despite having no personal or vested opinion in the matter, and I doubt Conan himself has one either.

Conan is just.... not...funny..... Wasn't before the Tonight Show, wasn't in the Tonight show, and isn't now.

He's just not funny.

Well then, I guess that's that.

Seriously, though, did you not even like his writing on The Simpsons?

I thought the video itself was pretty funny.

What I realized at the end is that someone had annotated the end of it with the features that have been removed.

Honestly I think people need to realize that Apple is moving away from the 'Professional' software world and that Final Cut, Aperture and Logic will go by the wayside. Heck, even Lion is a little underwhelming and just proves how Apple is moving towards an all iOS environment.

I'd love to compare the dollars and people that are in those departments now vs. a few years ago. I also wonder if any major new versions will come out after this.

My impression is that Aperture has been getting more pro, not less. True, they are moving away from the pro pricing model, but is that a bad thing, unless you're Adobe?

Final Cut Pro X is still early days. Its really a new program, and yes, it has more than a few warts. Expect many updates before it settles in. If I had to depend on it to make money, I wouldn't right now, but in a year it should be ok.

honestly after looking at those features that were removed, its all legacy stuff. sure there were a few things, like the photoshop layer recognition and the importing of macro files, but mostly it was old things that needn't be there anymore. Export to Tape? tell your employer that tape is over. most local tv stations have moved on from tapes as well. the few that need this to survive, well dont upgrade. save your self the $300.
apple has changed final cut pro to iMovie Pro. I'm not mad at that.

You REALLY dont know what you're talking about... Apple not just dropped suport to tape, but to external decks whatsoever... You can't control anything more via RS-422, there's no decent implementation of timecode. For your information, tape is always used everywhere nowadays in media business. How do you think broadcasters archive his masters? In HDs? Go to posthouses, sound studios, tvs, film estudios and you'll see a lot of tapes. Of all kind... HDCam SR, XDcam (not tape, but you can't use these with FCPX either) DVCPro HD...

You can't export from FCPX timeline to nothing but their line of codecs. And that's it.

You guys should really resize the video, it doesn't fit in the content column of the site

Leave it... it ties in nicely with the humor.

I thought it was funny. Any normal person would see that the video had problems.

You should have seen his "Oprah's Favorite Things that didn't go over well" video...

I think this says more about Conan's show and how they're trying to be more "in-tune" with their younger, tech-oriented audience. He would not have done this sort of joke on NBC, that's for sure.
