Adobe's new "switcher" campaign targets frustrated Final Cut Pro users with 50% off

Adobe didn't waste anytime trying to capitalize on customer dissatisfaction with Apple's new Final Cut Pro X. Professional users are unhappy with the lack of Pro features like multiple camera support in the latest version of Apple's video editing software.
In response, Adobe has kicked off a new "switcher" campaign that highlights ten reasons why the professional video editor should switch to Adobe Premiere Pro CS. It's also offering a whopping 50% off on Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Production Premium or Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 for those who own Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer. The media software giant is throwing down the gauntlet and aiming straight for those unhappy Apple customers. Anyone out there going to give in and switch to Adobe?

This is quite tempting! I'll definitely want to try before I buy, so I'm glad it's going through September!

I have now been using FCPX since its release and have found it to be vastly superior in most respects and much much faster. OK it has quite a few things to address for some Pros but it is being condemned before people even see it. My work turnaround has speeded up and I am drinking less coffee waiting for rendering. I like the simpler interface and overall I give it the thumbs up. The interface in Motion5 is also better. There's no way I would ever go back to buggy old Adobe products that I have to take out a mortgage to upgrade.

Agreed, FCPX is an incredible product and will have most of the missing features added in short order. So all the whiners need to take a deep breath and just keep doing what they've been doing with FCP7 until then.

1) Final Cut Pro 7 still works, so no functionality has been lost for users since FCP X was released.
2) Adobe charges astronomical prices for upgrades.
I think I'll stick with FCP7 and pay the far lower price for FCP X when it meets my needs.
Adobe products are the buggiest programs that kind of money can buy. I am forced to use their products for most of my media work, there is no way I am going to become MORE dependant on a company that charges outrageous prices for their upgrades and refuses to do reasonable updates on their existing products. Anyone remember using CS3 translated through Rosetta (or was that CS2) we suffered for months to find out that the only way to get native intel was to buy the next version of the sweet. Then again with 64 bit. I will keep the amount of software I am stuck with from Adobe, no more.

July 01 2011 at 4:31 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy guess is that people that are currently unsatisfied with FCPX will continue to use FCP7 until FCPX is updated to address some/many/most of the issues people are complaining about.

July 01 2011 at 3:24 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have two glaring problems with Navigon:
1. The icon showing which side of the street your destination is on is so incredibly small that it's incredibly difficult to distinguish when stationary, and when driving it's utterly impossible. This needs to be fixed.
2. Tomtom seems to be the only GPS app that shows you a number pad when entering an address. Navigon (and every other GPS app on the market) give a QWERTY keyboard for number entry, and frankly it's too small and awkward for such a use. If I'm entering only a number then show me only numbers. I would think this to be obvious, but only Tomtom seems to have noticed.
------
The color scheme on Navigon leaves something to be desired and additional color options would be nice. Tomtom offers more variety (though most options are terribly; blue on blue or green on green is just plain stupid).
------
However, all of these things aside there is one reason I keep coming back to Navigon: lane guidance. Navigon has, bar none, the best lane guidance I've ever seen on a GPS app. Everything else aside, with Navigon I always know what lane I should be in to make my turns or merge onto the correct road, and showing the next turn ahead is also a great feature.
Just talked with Adobe -- the prices are certainly attractive.
The promotion goes through Sept. 30, so I'm going to download trials this weekend and see how I like it. My experience with After Effects 6.0 was so bad (impossible learning curve) that I'm a little skittish about their video products.
We'll see. Smart move on their part, though.
After Effects isn't primarily designed for video editing, is main purpose is motion graphics - which it excels at. We used to get animation done in After Effects and then edit everything together in Final Cut.

So i really feel the pain of the pro users. Apple should fire the head of FC project and iMovie, they have no idea what the real working user wants, they think video is just a hobby.
The redesigned iMovie was released with a number of key features missing. These have since been added back in, and iMovie is now a solid product with a much more accessible design than iMovie HD.
It's clear FCP X is heading the same way. Much more accessible design, but feature-light in its initial release.
But shouldn't they have said as much? If this was the case, perhaps people wouldn't be as up-in-arms about it, right?
