RichardSolo promo gets you 1800 mAh iPhone backup batteries on the cheap

Richard Thalheimer's company RichardSolo was one of the pioneers of the iPhone backup battery business. Way back in 2008, the company came out with the RS001 1800 mAh backup battery, at a price of US$69.95. Well, if you live in the USA and use a special promo code while ordering, you can now get this battery pack for as little as $5.09.

These are very useful backup batteries for the iPhone. They come with a built-in laser pointer, an LED flashlight, a dual voltage 110-240V AC wall charger, a USB/mini-USB retractable charge cable, a dual port USB car charger, and small support braces for most generations of the iPhone that can be used to hold the battery pack to the phone. The battery packs also work with all iPod models that use the Dock connector.

If you buy one, the price is $5.98, but for two or more the price drops to $5.09. Once again, the deal is only valid for US customers, and it ends at midnight on July 31st, 2011 or when supplies are exhausted. To get the deal, enter the code word fireworks into the coupon code box while checking out. For more details and to order your backup batteries, visit the product page for the RS001.

Ordered 2 on Wed, got 2 yesterday. Works as advertised. Was able to charge my iPhone from 75% to 100% in 20 mins. Also got 2 3G cases with it. Very cool deal.

So I just received the ones I ordered. They work as advertised.
They do come with the iPhone adapter, so you don't need to buy the separate adapter for another $1.

The wall charger is 0.8 amps.
The dual USB car charger is 1 amp on each port for fast charging.
Since the car charger is 1 Amp then this is the same charge rate as the home iPhone 4 charger and twice as fast than most cheap car chargers.

Not bad for a little over $5. My 1 Amp car charger I have now cost me $10 just for the charger.

Submitted my order but then had it cancelled as 'fireworks' promo only good for shipping to a US address.

Canadians miss out on this deal!

Just ordered two. One for myself and one for my wife. Also got the iPhone 4 connector because I'm not 100% sure it will connect without issue. Screw it what's another $2

I also ordered from Canada. I was then contacted by email and told that the order was being cancelled and my paypal refunded since the offer is only in the US.

This battery works well enough, but it has a few drawbacks. First, there is no cable. The battery hooks directly to the iPhone, as shown in the picture on the box. This makes the phone difficult to use while charging. If you try to pick it up while charging, you risk breaking the connector off the battery. Second, since it only has the proprietary Apple connector, you can't use it to charge devices other than iPhones or iPods. RichardSolo offers a similar battery that has a cable and a mini USB connector, which does not have these shortcomings.

Ah, I figured it out. You seem to have to purchase a minimum of two. No problem!
