Yet another SLR mount for the iPhone

Those longing to use a US$3,000 camera lens with their iPhone 4s are in luck. Photojojo has released the iPhone SLR Mount, a spiffy way to mount Canon EOS or a Nikon SLR lenses to your iPhone 4.

A slot on the mount holds lens in place, and loops on either end await the click of your camera strap.

It sounds crazy, but it's not. Huge numbers of people take photos with iPhones daily. Recent Flickr data suggests that iPhone submissions have dominated its pool of photos for a long time. It's reasonable to offer a pseudo-pro option for a camera that people shoot with that often.

Of course, this isn't the first SLR iPhone camera rig we've seen. This DIY rig got the job done, while iPhone DSLR looked promising late last year, but fell victim to design and cost issues.

Lol, it's basically like the static 35mm adapters for video that were popular before the HDSLR video craze. The only unique thing they're offering here is making the mount and case to connect the 35mm adapter.

I don't see the market for this, but I doubt they're expecting many sales though.

"Pseudo-pro Option"? That's a laugh! I can see how convenient it would be to carry around a big honking lens so you can strap it to your iPhone! This is the essence of absurdity if you ask me!

The fact that gazillions of iPhone photos are being uploaded to the web speaks to only one thing: That consumers are as indiscriminate about uploading their camera phone pics as they are about posting mindless twits... er, tweets... to their Twitter accounts.

Being a DSLR user myself and using a 5D Mark II, there is no way I would ever consider attaching one of my lenses to an iPhone. By the time you buy the mount and a lens (if you don't have one) you might as well just go out and buy a proper camera body and get great shots rather than sub par shots using an iPhone.

It doesn't cost 3k and it needn't be used exclusively with a 3k lens. They only mentioned an expensive lens to illustrate that it could indeed be a silly use of such a high end component. You could just as easily use it with the standard lens that came with a dslr which would mean you only have ~ 300 invested to take sub standard pics. Sub standard by dslr standards but not iphone standards, possibly the most used camera out there right now. Which is kind of the point. Offer something that increases the capability of a very popular product. I'm sure they'll sell at least a few.

If they made this for K-mount and sold if for $50 instead of $249 it might not be the stupidest thing I have ever seen. But since it's only for Canikon and overpriced it is the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

It sounds crazy because it is.

One would have to be insane to be carrying around a large expensive lens mounted on what looks like a piece of cheap plastic to take photos that do not compare to what they could take if they used the lens with the cameras it was intended for. If you are already carrying the large lens, the camera it should be attached to adds little in terms of inconvenience.
