Apple's back-to-school promo reportedly beating Microsoft 8 to 2

According to a report from Global Equities Research, more incoming college students are picking up an Apple computer than a Windows computer this year. Apple is not just edging out Microsoft either; Macs are beating out Windows machines at an impressive rate of 8 to 2.

About 80% of incoming students will rock a Mac and an increasing number of current students are ditching their Windows machines in favor of an Apple-branded product. iPads are also a hot product among senior students, says the Global Equities Research report. The research also suggests many students are taking advantage of Apple's Back to School $100 gift card promo. What are they doing with extra windfall of iTunes cash? Buying songs, of course.

You forgot the winking smiley at the end of "What are they doing with extra windfall of iTunes cash? Buying songs, of course." ;) The ratio of college students paying for music on iTunes vs not is definitely not 8:2!

Apps perhaps, songs; no.

Why "8 to 2"? Why not 4 to 1, which is how normal people do it? Oh sure, it's the same thing, but if you're going to go big, why not go really big and make it 12 to 3? Or 100 to 25?

Or 947,607,498,128 to 236,901,874,532? It's the same thing.

Actually, if I were a new college student, I would con my family to buy me a Mac, sell it when I gt to school and by a Pc system and pocket the re sing cash... I am a Mac user, but it seems that would be a clever scam and kids are not stupid, either, to think the same.

Sounds like a sad indicator of growing computer (and fiscal) illiteracy among college students.

I find it sad that you feel that people are only computer literate if they use Windows. I go to technical University studying comp. sci. and I am far more computer literate than most of the people around me. However, I use both Mac and PC. I only use my PC for applications that aren't available on Mac. Your comment is the only sad thing I've read today...

What amazing leaps you make in your first sentence! I never claimed that all non-Windows users are computer-illiterate (and as a side note, I barely ever use Windows myself). But I think it's very safe to say that there is less computer literacy among Mac users than others.

Why, because they know the superior product when they see it?

That's strictly an opinion, of course, but it's just as valid as yours, and neither has anything to do with computer or fiscal literacy.

At the universities around here, it's 8:2 in favor of Windows, not the other way around.

I work at a university. Take a look at the notebook computers that students are using and 8:2 seems reasonable. A casual observation would say 75% macbook pro. Easy.

How about: beating Windows 7 to 3.

Just to make it really confusing.

That's 4-1 in the real world. 8-2 shocking,
