iPhoto, GarageBand & iMovie updated in Mac App Store (Updated)

A brief moment of confusion overtook us this morning as we got reports of new versions of GarageBand (6.0.4), iMovie (9.0.4) and iPhoto (9.1.5), with minor bug fixes plus tweaks to iMovie's ability to import projects from the iOS editions of the app.

When several of us fired up Software Update to grab the new builds, the updates were nowhere to be seen -- yet our tipster was insistent that the new updates were there. Our friends at MacUpdate also had them listed... and that's where we figured out the mystery. So far, only the Mac App Store versions of the apps have been revised; the conventionally-installed iLife versions have not yet been released.

While we're sure the 'classic' updates will be forthcoming momentarily, this split-update did give us a moment's pause. As far as we can recall, this is the first time any of Apple's products have been available in newer versions on the MAS than via Software Update. Times, they are a-changin'.

Thanks, Jason!

Update: iMovie, GarageBand, and iPhoto updates are now showing up in Software Update.

Update 2: iWeb 3.0.4 and iDVD 7.1.2 are also available in Software Update.

and in Lion with ilife 11 + yesterdays updates now all the apps have the fullscreen mode button in their windows titlebar ( before the update not available , only iPhoto as built in feature ) - amazing. So no need to buy "ilife 12" for full Lion feature compatibility .

Software update prompted me that there were available updates for iPhoto, iweb, idvd etc. It downloaded all of them but all of them fail to install. Grrrr.

It's now available through the Mac App Store, I've just updated about 10 minutes ago, a 736MB update. >_<

They took the color out of my iPhoto! It now features the dull grey of iTunes. I guess apple isn't having color be one of the features of their UI going forward.

It certainly is strange Apple wouldn't allow those who have not installed via the App Store to update..

I had the same confusion.

Opened my apps and used them to check for updates only to have them say that they were all up to date.

Say what?

Thanks for the info... you've settled the confusion.

Well I guess this means the news is true: goodbye, iWeb.

Bummer they're neglecting/offing iWeb—I really liked it for 'throw-this-together-quickly-for-a-client' work. Cheap, effective WYSIWYG editor.

While I'm sure that iWeb is dead, this news doesn't seem to have anything to do with that... That's not even in the MAS to begin with.

It's relevant in the fact that they continue to avoid iWeb—or at least before the second update about an updated iWeb—by making major alterations to the other iLife applications.
