Firefox 6 now available

Mozilla has officially released Firefox 6.0 for the Mac. The newest version of Mozilla's web browser features a number of under-the-hood improvements that lend themselves to a 20% speed increase (or thereabouts) in the browser itself, plus security improvements.

Over the weekend, Mozilla accidentally leaked Firefox 6.0 on its FTP servers. If you didn't grab it then, go get it now. If not, you may find yourself Downloading Firefox 7 or 8. Mozilla is on its fast-release schedule and has slotted the release of Firefox 7 for September 27, Firefox 8 for November 8 and Firefox 9 for December 20th.

I love Firefox (4 was a fail) but all these releases are making me have to suffer through IE for school work on the school's platform.( Fortunately, I get an Avant browser to use, much better than IE). They still haven't updated for Firefox 5 yet, needless to say the 6.

I hate these releases. Chrome did it since day one. It's still technically the 13th revision of the first release. What the hell is Firefox 6? It's barely an update and 5 wasn't much either. They can have a release every 6 weeks if they like but stick to the calling it Firefox 4. It's 4.0.2 in my book.

I am not a fan of the fast "big" release updates Firefox is doing. These updates aren't large enough and should probably be .1 releases.

Given all the recent Firefox updates, I'm curious: Who funds Mozilla's browser development? How are they generating revenue by providing a free browser?

If these monthly version upgrades continue by the end of next year we'll be running Firefox 21.

No, Mozilla didn't accidentally leak it. Beta has been using Firefox 6's code base for weeks now, and they put it on their FTP servers on purpose. Seriously, stop "breaking" that Mozilla "leaked" Firefox on their FTP servers.

Didn't Firefox 5 come out yesterday?

Not yesterday, but they are moving to the Chrome model. New major versions often.
