Mac sales climb after launch of OS X Lion and new MacBook Airs

Apple's current quarterly earnings should receive a nice boost from brisk sales of Mac hardware says analysts. This summer increase can be attributed to the July introduction of OS X Lion and new MacBook Air and Mac mini models.

The latest NPD report suggests Mac sales may climb 26% year over year, which is six times the growth of the overall PC market. Barclays analyst Ben Reitzes is a bit more conservative with his estimate of 18% year-over-year growth for Mac sales. And, lastly, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is similarly optimistic about Mac sales. Munster believes enthusiasm for the new hardware and software will help Apple ship 4.5 million Macs this quarter.

Based on these estimates, it'll be a good year for the Mac. Mac sales will continue to grow and Apple will gain market share in the PC industry. These glowing figures are a refreshing change from the rest of the PC industry which is slumping.

My top of the line MBA is on its way from Shanghai arriving Friday morn, and will be ordering a new iMac in the next couple of weeks. Can't wait! Working with 4 year old 24" imac and 4 year old MacBook Pro which are great machines but need more horsepower as they are a bit sluggish and getting into video editing.

I have the new 11 MBA and have to say that this is my fave computer of all time. Yes it does run hot when I run something with Flash, which is only when I use Chrome and if the site has video. Doesn't appear I have the same issue when I run Netflix on Safari which uses SilverLight from MS. Other than that I have to say I'm in love.

I've been feeling the same way about the previous 11" model. I wish I had the i5 to get better performance while rendering video (yes, I'm crazy like that), but otherwise it's an incredible machine.

I'm going to wait for the Ivy Bridge model before switching from the Core 2 Duo one next year.

I'm curious do you run into any over heating or hear the fan kick on when you are watching Flash video? I have not noticed my MBA doing that when I was watching Netflix on my MBA, but my MBA after maybe a 4 min video the fan was going crazy. Thanks :).
