Apple corporate matching program raises $2.6M for charities
As first reported by AppleInsider, Apple has announced to its employees that their combined efforts have led to US$2.6 million being donated to charitable companies since the company's "Apple Matching Gifts Program" began. That's not a bad haul considering the program is only seven weeks old.
The program was started by Apple's new CEO Tim Cook in September. Through the program Apple will match employee donations dollar-for-dollar -- up to $10,000 per employee, per year -- to any nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
Currently the "Apple Matching Gifts Program" is only available to US employees, though Apple is expected to roll it out in other countries in the coming months.

Apple's charity program is just a scam.
If you read the whole article at appleinsider.com,, you'll see that Apple's $1.3m match is not going to any charities. It's going to be used to internally promote the program. They are paying themselves, if you will.
"The $1.3 million matched so far is being used by Apple to internally promote the program and solicit more donations."
The employees could have donated directly to the charities and the charities would have received the same amount they are receiving with Apple's program. Instead, Apple gets good PR for what their employees are doing without having to donate anything.
It's not bad, but in Microsoft we raised 100 million just in October our giving campaign month. And this has been going on forever. Nice to see Apple is finally on board with giving.
