Droid RAZR, iPhone 4S side by side comparison video

For those of us in the US, it seems like the flashy ads for the Motorola Droid RAZR seem to have taken over the airwaves in the last few weeks. While none of us at TUAW have succumbed to the advertising (nor is it likely that we would), the folks at PhoneArena did -- and made an almost 11-minute video comparing a Droid RAZR and iPhone 4S side-by-side in everything from thickness (the Droid RAZR is thinner) to user interface.
It's a very fair comparison, with the iPhone 4S taking the lead in many areas. The reviewer comments about the premium feel of the iPhone's glass shell as opposed to the woven Kevlar back on the RAZR which "feels like lino" (linoleum). The Droid RAZR is larger -- and more difficult to hold -- with a bigger display, but also weighs less than the iPhone 4S.
Not surprisingly, Siri is one of the features that is touted as a bonus for iPhone 4S owners, while the 4G LTE network support of the Droid RAZR on the Verizon network is a huge bonus. Enough of me; take 11 minutes out of your day and watch the video. It's well worth the time.

Each phone has their benefits and disadvantages, but I think I would lean more towards getting an iPhone 4S. I have a Droid and it is not the best phone ever. The service is slow, and from what I’ve heard, LTE isn’t going to be available in my area for a long time and it isn’t so great with batteries, so I think I’d be better off upgrading to the iPhone 4S until I can try out an LTE network here. Sure LTE would be good for streaming and downloading, but I’d rather not carry my charger with me wherever I go. I think I’d be okay with 3G for now. I love streaming, and that app that I use to do so is the DISH Remote Access app from my employer DISH Network. It is an awesome app that lets me stream any of my subscribed channels live to my phone. If I want, I can even choose to stream my recorded shows or movies from my DVR. The app is for iPhone and Android, so if I choose Android in the future, I will be able to watch the same shows and movies. Plus the iPhone just looks better!

Apple's attention to detail still wins out. The other handset makers seem to be more focused on tech specs that very few people really care about. Android is pretty good these days, but it still doesn't match the polish of iOS.
Finally, what's the use of being the thinnest phone if you have that bulge for the camera on top? iPhone wins again, as expected.
Ugh. I love my Apple products (MBP, iMac, iPad), and I love my Android phone. With personal preference being the decided factor on many of the so-called "criteria", I absolutely hate articles like this. When comparing two top notch products, and personal preferences being the key factors, it is impossible to be objective. For example, they say the RAZR, with its larger screen, is more difficult to hold. I have big hands, and I have no problem holding the larger phones I've tried in the stores. And they say the Kevlar back feels like linoleum. Personally, I disagree. I do agree that the iPhone has that typically Apple premium feel, and that's something that no other manufacturer has even tried to match, but that's not as important to me as other factors. iOS or Android...a fruitless argument that defies any and all attempts at objectivity. Not even worth the time it took to read this article or watch the video. Go with what YOU like based on what's important to you, not on some websites utterly subjective comparison. Like I said, I'm on BOTH sides of the fence here. I love Apple stuff, and I love my Android phone.
Just my $0.02.
I agree, although I love my Apple products - I have a MacBook Air and an iPhone - I personally don't give two hoots what anyone else prefers to use. I see the technological evangelism of some people just as said as religious evangelism.

It will be interesting to see if Motorola Mobility being under the Google tent will get this thing timely updates to Android and long term support. I still can't believe Google would miss a chance to internally replicate the same vertical package Apple has, but with less strict controls as to when and how consumer can opt out of their "1st party" offerings.
They could at least go all they way from the Razr through a GoogleTV.
