Best of 2011 Nominations: Mac game apps

During December and January, The Unofficial Apple Weblog is soliciting your nominations and votes for the best products for Mac, iPhone/iPod touch, and iPad. We'll start with nominations in a category, and then tally your votes for the top-nominated products a few days later. The winner in each category receives the highly-coveted title of TUAW Best of 2011.

Today's category for Best of 2011 nominations is Mac game apps. The Mac has gained in popularity as a gaming platform over the past few years, and there are a number of excellent titles that have been keeping Mac users happy this last 12 months.

Perhaps it's the Angry Birds franchise that keeps you from doing work, or maybe you're busy with Civilization V: Campaign Edition. The dark backstory of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas might have your attention, and fans of the Star Wars universe can always nominate Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic as their favorite. And who can forget Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare?

It's time for gamers to nominate their favorite title of 2011 for special attention from TUAW. Just leave a comment below with your favorite game, and we'll see which titles seem to be the most popular. In a few days, you'll have your opportunity to vote for the best Mac game of 2011.

Nominations close at 11:59 PM ET on December 11, 2011.

What about portal 2? Arguably one of the best games of the year on any platform. Or are we just talking about "App Store" games?

None of those games were produced this year, which makes this whole thing a bit laughable

Minecraft came out of beta this year, making it released this year.
Voxatron admittedly is was not released yet. It's still in alpha, but it such a great game I had to throw it in there.

My comment was deleted somehow. :c Minecraft was technically released this year. It's possibly one of the most creative games I've ever played. There's also the very difficult Super Meat Boy which came out on the Mac last month. And how could anyone forget Portal 2? That game blew my mind! :D

So my top three games for the Mac this year are Minecraft, Portal 2, and Super Meat Boy.

I would have to say my top 3 games for the Mac are the following:

3) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
2) Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
1) Return to Dark Castle (and seriously, if you haven't played this, you don't deserve to be a Mac Gamer. It is just *THAT* good)

For me, its between Steam and Boot Camp -- both of which bring Windows gaming to the Mac.

Trine - it hit the app store in the past month or two, and is one of the very few games I've ever actually dedicated time to playing. Beautiful, creative, fun!
