Nominate your favorite iPad accessory for TUAW's Best of 2011 awards

During December and January, The Unofficial Apple Weblog is soliciting your nominations and votes for the best products for Mac, iPhone/iPod touch, and iPad. We'll start with nominations in a category, and then tally your votes for the top-nominated products a few days later. The winner in each category receives the highly-coveted title of TUAW Best of 2011.

In the next category for the TUAW Best of 2011 awards, we'll take a look at iPad accessories other than cases. We opened nominations for iPad cases yesterday, so if you get a chance be sure to throw your proverbial iPad case hat into the ring.

What are we talking about here? Just about anything that works with an iPad that isn't a case. Think of things like docks, adapter cables, health interfaces (like the Withings Wi-Fi Body Scale or Blood Pressure Monitor), the ION Audio Piano Apprentice or other musical instrument interfaces.

TUAW wants to hear from you -- what's your favorite iPad accessory? Leave your nomination in the comments below. Voting will start soon!

Nominations close at 11:59 PM ET on December 25, 2011.

Smart cover. Really de-bulked the iPad.

I vote for the Yoobao executive leather case for iPad 2 (Version 3). The case looks great, offers great protection, and features smart cover functionality and magnetic closure mechanism to keep the cover closed. It's really the best case for iPad 2:

Another candidate is the MiLi iBox 8000mAh battery case for iPad 2:

The Clayware Pad Bracket. For $30 I can put the ipad in front of my treadmill and run, watching videos, CNN live, streaming television etc or running videos. This is a Mom & Pop operationg that hit the nail right on the head. It works really well.

The Mathias Bluetooth folding keyboard.
One of the few to have all the F keys and a number pad.

I would like to nominate iProp. I saw the product online before it was available and I waited for it. Soon after they released it, I ordered one and use it almost every day. It comes with a clip on mount, which you must use without a case on the iPad (1 or 2). On the back of the mount is a receiver for a ball joint. The ball joint is attached to a 36" stand, the top 24" are gooseneck and the other 12" is straight. On the bottom is a very sturdy, low profile, V base. They also now sell another 12" extension to get a little more height.

The case is great for me, a drummer, because I can set my iPad in a functional area out of danger of being struck by a drumstick. It's great for guitar players or anyone seated or standing reading sheet music or anything else. Slide the base between your mattress and box spring and you have a hands free device safely hovering wherever you want it. This is great for reading or watching Netflix in bed, it avoids that awkward hand tingle after a while.

There are lots of great products out there, iProp is certainly one of them.

Do you actually own this? I have always wondered if this really worked or not. If you own it, can you tell us if shadows or external light sources get in the way? Also how it feels without tactile feedback? Thanks
(Totally curious).

Hands down, the Makayama Movie Mount. It turns the iPad 2 into a video camera with a tripod screw in its base.

It allows you to mount two camera-shoe accessories like a shotgun mic plus a movie light.

It lets you screw a 37mm-mount accessory lens onto a plate that covers the camera lens—then lets you slide that optic out of the way instantly to shoot with the existing iPad lens.

It lets me mount the iPad 2 on a Steadicam Merlin. Now I have a high definition camera with the world's largest viewfinder floating effortlessly through the environment.

When people see this rig in action, they go nuts over it.

As a special education teacher working with students with multiple disabilities, the iPad has made a significant impact on my classroom. The Bubcap home button cover has been the single most important accessory used with the iPad. It allows me the flexibility to start the student in an app and know that they will stay with the app instead of choosing something different. It allows the students to interact with the iPad without me standing over them. A simple, yet very effective accessory!
I would like to nominate the Bubcap home button cover as the best iPad accesssory!

I would like to nominate BubCaps, a simple yet effective device. I used it originally to keep my son with special needs from exiting educational and communication apps when he wanted to play instead. I found it was great for me too. It keeps me from inadvertently hitting home while in iBooks or watching videos. It's been invaluable. Everyone should have one.

Bubcaps by Paperclip Robot help keep kids stay in the apps they are supposed to be in. And, of course, BubCaps are one of the most affordable iPad accessories available. These have been a great to use with my students in speech therapy.
