Smart Cord may be the simplest app on the store, it's an on/off switch

Bombarded by CES news? This won't take long to read. The Smart Cord app is basically just one button, designed to control a simple but clever Bluetooth power cord. If you have an outdoor fountain that you like to turn off at night, or anything that needs a remote-controlled on/off switch, Smart Cord is actually pretty neat. The app is free, but the 3-foot cord will set you back $39.95.

The ZMote folks are planning a few other remote-controlled switches and cords, but those won't be available until later this year.

I stumbled on their website the other day. I'll be buying one one to test but as soon as my kids see it I'm sure I'll lose it. They could probably talk with a high school kid for cheap labor on building a website. Every great product started at this stage, keep up the good work guys!

It uses audio as the control channel- interesting. " Essentially, using our APPs is just like playing your favorite song. Any device that has A2DP Bluetooth capability can control our products."

It's potentially better than Insteon (of which I use a lot in my house) *if* you only need one or two controlled items. With Insteon you'd need an app on the phone, a suitable bit of software to drive an insteon PLM, plus the Insteon controlled outlets or whatever. That adds up to a fair bit of change. Now, if you're controlling a whole house, Insteon plus Indigo makes a whole lot of sense.

Cool concept (horrible website though). I played with app (http://www.zmote.com/iphone.htm) and it relies on AirPlay (select a Bluetooth source to switch between multiple ZMote cords). It requires iPhone's volume setting at maximum.

Someone should take this to the next level with WiFi and Internet support, multiple outlets, and implementation that does not rely on AirPlay loophole.

I could see cool possibilities for something like this if it used wifi instead of bluetooth.
Although I suppose you could set up a BT gateway or something like that if you had a bunch of these in one location.
