Microsoft Messenger 6.0 for Mac: Comprehensive Review

Microsoft has recently unveiled its inaugural Universal app: Microsoft Messenger for Mac 6.0.

The latest version introduces several enhancements including:

  • Capability to communicate with Yahoo! Messenger contacts

  • Option to post status updates

  • Displays songs currently playing on iTunes

  • Personalized emoticons

  • Integration with Spotlight search feature

  • Built-in spell checker

In my professional environment, we utilize Microsoft Office Live Communications Server extensively, which means frequent use of Messenger.

However, there are a couple of issues that still need addressing:

  • The inability to set a ‘note’ as can be done in the Windows version, which might just be an oversight on my part

  • Starting a chat session always triggers a lengthy warning about not sharing credit card details over instant messaging

I hope Microsoft takes note of these minor yet significant concerns.
