Meridian Iris HD Upscaling Dock for iPods

According to a recent report by Playlist, Meridian, a company known for its high-quality audio equipment, is set to introduce the Iris, a new universal iPod Dock. This device is notable for its inclusion of an HD video upscaler that utilizes Marvell’s Qdeo technology.

This feature will enhance iPod video outputs to either 1080p through HDMI or 720p via component connections, while also supporting both digital (optical) and analog audio outputs. Given that the standard TV output for iPods is merely VGA quality (640×480), this represents a significant upgrade, although it’s important to temper expectations as upscalers are limited by the original data quality of the video.

The true performance of this upscaler will be eagerly anticipated when the product launches in November.

The retail price for the Iris iPod Dock is set at $379, and it will be available for purchase starting in November.
