Mavericks OS X Server Now Available in Mac App Store

There was a period when setting up Mac OS Server or OS X Server was a significant challenge, involving a separate version of the operating system that required a fresh install or an upgrade. However, those complexities are a thing of the past.

Today, OS X Server functions as an app layered over the standard OS X, and it’s available for purchase on the Mac App Store for a mere $19.99. Previously, it was considerably more expensive, especially for those opting to use dedicated hardware.

The newest version of OS X Server, version 3.0, is optimized for OS X 10.9 Mavericks and is now available in the Mac App Store for download.

This latest release includes several attractive features such as profile management with VPP app distribution, complimentary XSan, a new XCode build server, and enhanced file and web serving tools. Notably, it introduces an improved Caching Server that stores Apple software updates—both Mac and iOS—locally, reducing the strain on your network bandwidth.

If you’re in the process of upgrading to OS X Server, we’d love to hear about your experience.
