Today marks the official release of iOS 8.1 by Apple, transitioning the software from its beta phase to full availability for users. As previously announced, this update introduces several new features including Apple Pay for compatible devices and enhances iCloud with Photo Library access.

Additionally, it activates Continuity features that improve integration between iOS devices and Macs.

One of the notable Continuity features, Instant Hotspot, simplifies the process for Mac users to connect to an iPhone’s hotspot with minimal setup required. Additionally, the SMS relay functionality is now expanded, allowing users to send and receive iPhone text messages directly from their iPads and Macs.

With the reintroduction of the Camera Roll, iOS 8.1 addresses one of the user concerns from the previous version.

This feature had been notably absent in iOS 8.0, leading to user feedback for its return.

Users of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch can install iOS 8.1 directly on their devices via an over-the-air update by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update. Alternatively, they can connect their device to a computer and update through iTunes.
