Apple Music has launched a new wellness feature called Sound Therapy. It helps users improve focus, relax, and sleep using audio shaped by neuroscience.
Music Meets Brainwaves
This is more than just calm background music. Apple worked with Universal Music Group’s Sollos Initiative to redesign existing songs. These tracks now include layered sound waves—such as gamma, theta, and delta frequencies—known to affect the brain.

The Focus playlist features gamma waves and white noise to boost attention. Relax includes slower theta waves to reduce stress. For bedtime, the Sleep playlist uses delta waves and pink noise to encourage deep rest.
Featuring Global Artists
Apple ensured broad appeal by featuring music from well-known names. Katy Perry, Imagine Dragons, AURORA, Kacey Musgraves, and Jeremy Zucker all contributed tracks. Each one maintains the original song’s spirit but adds a layer of calming science.
Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s co-head, said this project builds on Apple’s earlier work with mood-based playlists and the Chill radio station. “It’s grounded in artistry, shaped by innovation, and designed to support wellness,” she noted.
Part of a Bigger Wellness Push
This isn’t Apple’s first step into sound-based wellness. Features like Background Sounds in iOS 15 already offer nature-inspired audio for mental relief. Sound Therapy builds on that by using science to enhance how we listen and feel.
