Apple is developing a next-generation iPhone to mark the 20th anniversary of the product in 2027. Just like the iPhone X celebrated the 10-year mark with a new design, this model is expected to bring bold updates.

Reports suggest Apple has already started working with its suppliers on key changes. These upgrades focus on power efficiency and a modern display experience.

New Display May Remove Bezel and Cutout

Apple is exploring an advanced OLED screen with a FinFET-based driver chip. This chip, made using a 16-nanometer process, uses less power than the current 28-nanometer version.

The company may also use high-efficiency OLED elements to improve brightness while saving energy. In addition, under-display camera technology and curved edges could make the screen stretch edge to edge. That means no bezel and no camera hole.

Silicon Battery Could Boost Performance

Along with the screen, the battery could see a major upgrade. Apple may switch to a 100% silicon-based battery. This would increase how much power the battery can hold and make it last longer.

Such a battery would also age more slowly, meaning users would enjoy strong battery life for more years. This change could help power features like on-device AI, which require more energy.

Suppliers Are Already in Talks

Apple is expected to work with long-time partners LG Display and Samsung Display on the new screen tech. Discussions are already happening, according to industry sources.

Although Apple has not confirmed the details, several reports support the idea of a special 2027 model. If true, the 20th-anniversary iPhone could be one of the biggest redesigns since the iPhone X.
