At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Apple premiered its first immersive feature-length documentary designed for the Apple Vision Pro headset. Titled Bono: Stories of Surrender, the film gives viewers a front-row experience of U2 frontman Bono’s one-man stage show.

The documentary, produced by Apple TV+, was shown as a “Special Screening” on Saturday, May 17. It blends performance, storytelling, and technology in a new 8K and 180-degree immersive video format. Viewers wearing the Apple Vision Pro headset are virtually transported to the stage, standing beside Bono as he shares personal stories and music.

A Technological Leap in Storytelling

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Andrew Dominik, the documentary marks a milestone in Apple’s push into immersive content. Dominik, known for his work with Nick Cave in One More Time with Feeling, uses Apple’s latest tech to blur the line between audience and performer.

This documentary is the first to use Apple Immersive Video at feature length. The Apple Vision Pro version takes full advantage of spatial video capabilities, while a standard 8K version will be available to all Apple TV+ subscribers.

Bono himself praised the experiment, calling the project “really playful.” In an interview with Deadline, he admitted that Apple’s hardware is expensive, but he commended the company’s long-term vision. “They know not everyone can afford this,” he said, “but they’re still going for it.”

Global Release Coming Soon

Apple plans to release Bono: Stories of Surrender globally on Friday, May 30 via Apple TV+. Viewers with a Vision Pro will get the immersive version, while others can watch the 8K edition on compatible devices.

The film’s debut signals Apple’s commitment to shaping the future of digital storytelling. With Vision Pro at the center, Apple aims to redefine how we experience music, art, and film.
