Cyan, the studio behind the iconic Myst series, has launched updated versions of the Myst Trilogy on the Mac App Store. The release includes Myst: Masterpiece Edition, Riven: The Sequel to Myst, and Myst III: Exile. These versions now run natively on Apple Silicon, delivering faster performance and broader compatibility.

Developers optimized the trilogy to work seamlessly with Apple’s M-series chips. Players also get improved controller support, reliable save features, and a fully 64-bit build. This update means users no longer need workarounds to play the games on newer macOS devices.

A Classic Reborn for Today’s Macs

First released in 1993, Myst helped shape the future of narrative and puzzle games. Its impact even boosted CD-ROM adoption in homes and introduced many users to gaming on the Mac.

This latest edition marks the first time all three titles offer native Apple Silicon support. Users running macOS 10.13 or later can enjoy the games without technical issues, widening the audience beyond just modern machines.

Enhanced Features and Cross-Platform Availability

Cyan improved more than just compatibility. The team added support for game controllers, which now simulate mouse input. Save systems now work reliably, thanks to new stability features. With ScummVM integration, players can manage saved files more easily.

In addition to the Mac App Store, the games are also available on Windows, Steam, GOG, and Steam Deck. Although the updated versions no longer support 32-bit systems, players with older Macs can still download legacy builds via the 32-bit beta channel on Steam or GOG.

Affordable Access to a Gaming Milestone

Myst and Riven each cost $5.99, while Myst III: Exile is priced at $14.99. The release gives fans a smooth, modern way to revisit this groundbreaking trilogy—or experience it for the first time.

Cyan’s update bridges the gap between retro charm and today’s technology, ensuring Myst lives on for a new generation of Mac users.
