Apple has taken a new step in empowering users by expanding its Self Service Repair program to include iPads. Starting May 29, 2025, customers can now fix certain iPad models at home using genuine Apple parts and tools.

The repair program, first launched in April 2022 for iPhones, now includes the M2 and newer iPad Air, M4 iPad Pro, A17 Pro iPad mini, and the A16 iPad. This move marks a significant addition to the initiative, which already supported Macs and iPhones. In total, Self Service Repair now covers 65 Apple devices.

Access to Tools and Guidance

Under the program, users can access Apple’s Self Service Repair Store, where they can order parts like batteries, displays, cameras, and charging ports. Apple also provides detailed repair manuals and the same professional tools used in Apple Stores and authorized service centers.

To complete a repair, users follow a self-diagnosis process, order the required parts, and then return any “core” components to Apple to receive a credit. This mirrors the process followed by certified repair providers.

Canada Gets Added to the List

Alongside the product expansion, Apple announced that Self Service Repair will also roll out in Canada later this summer. Canada will become the 34th country to access the program, reflecting Apple’s commitment to making repairs more accessible worldwide.

A Push for Sustainability and Control

Apple’s VP of AppleCare, Brian Naumann, emphasized the company’s aim to extend the life of its products without compromising safety, privacy, or security. This move also aligns with growing consumer demand for repair rights and sustainability in tech.

With this update, Apple continues to support customers who prefer a hands-on approach, while promoting environmental responsibility and device longevity.
