Apple’s long-anticipated entry into the smart glasses market might become a reality in late 2027. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared fresh insights suggesting that Apple Glass could finally begin shipping after years of speculation and development hurdles.
Unlike early concepts that imagined immersive augmented reality displays, the first-generation Apple Glass will likely be a simpler device. It’s expected to resemble regular Ray-Ban-style eyewear, with features focused on audio playback and video recording. Kuo reports the glasses will not include visual displays but will support voice control and gesture recognition using built-in cameras.

Features and Functionality
This initial model aligns closely with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which also offer audio and camera capabilities. Apple plans to integrate environmental sensing for AI-powered interactions. These glasses would be controlled through a mix of voice commands and hand gestures, making them a hands-free tool for capturing media and interacting with Siri or other AI tools.
Apple may also offer several frame styles and material options, giving users more customization choices. Mass production is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027, with Apple aiming to ship between three and five million units within the same year.
Other Smart Glasses in the Works
In addition to the basic model, Apple is reportedly working on two other smart eyewear projects. One is the XR Glasses, which will likely include full-color augmented reality displays using waveguide and LCOS technology. These could debut in 2028. The second, a “Display Accessory” version, would rely on a tethered iPhone or Mac to function. Though previously thought to be canceled, this version may return with a new design direction.
