Apple could soon release a new MacBook using the A18 Pro chip, the same chip expected in the iPhone 16 Pro. Developer Aaron Perris found a reference to “Mac17,1” in the macOS 15 beta. This model number doesn’t match any current Mac.

The discovery supports earlier predictions from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He suggested Apple is working on a MacBook with an A-series chip, likely launching in 2026.

A More Colorful, Budget-Friendly MacBook

Kuo believes this new device will have a 13-inch screen and come in colors like silver, blue, pink, and yellow. Using the A18 Pro chip instead of an M-series chip may help Apple lower the price.

That could make it ideal for students or casual users. Kuo estimates Apple will sell five to seven million units in 2026. Mass production could begin by the end of 2025.

This would not be Apple’s first time using an iPhone chip in a new way. The company already powers the Vision Pro headset with a modified A-series chip.

What an A18 Chip Could Mean for Macs

The A18 Pro is known for its power efficiency and small size. In a MacBook, it could allow for a thinner, lighter design and longer battery life.

However, the change may also bring challenges. macOS apps are built for M-series chips. Apple would need to ensure the A18 MacBook runs apps smoothly and reliably.
