Apple is preparing to unveil its iPhone 17 lineup this September. As usual, both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to bring premium features to the market. However, the Pro Max model will introduce some key advantages beyond just screen size.
Display Size and Battery Boost
The iPhone 17 Pro will feature a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max will sport a larger 6.9-inch screen. This size difference isn’t new, but this year, the Pro Max might pull further ahead in performance thanks to an improved battery.

Reports suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be approximately 5% thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This extra space is likely to accommodate a larger battery, pushing its capacity to around 5,000 mAh. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to retain a similar thickness and battery size to last year’s model.
Camera and Design Similarities
Despite the size and battery difference, both the Pro and Pro Max are rumored to share the same camera setup. Each is expected to include three 48-megapixel rear cameras and an upgraded 24-megapixel front camera. So far, no exclusive camera features have been linked to the Pro Max this year.
Rumors about a smaller Dynamic Island on the Pro Max surfaced earlier in 2025, but newer reports suggest any such change will likely roll out across the entire iPhone 17 range—or be delayed until the next generation.
While the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Pro may appear similar at a glance, the Pro Max edges ahead with a larger display and stronger battery life. These features could appeal to users seeking extra screen space and longer use between charges.
