Apple has given the green light for the return of SaruTobi, a casual mobile game that now features in-app Bitcoin Lightning payments. This move marks a notable shift, allowing cryptocurrency features within iOS games under Apple’s guidelines.

In-Game Bitcoin Payments and Rewards

Developed by Christian Moss and published by MandelDuck, SaruTobi enables players to spend and earn small amounts of Bitcoin, known as “sats.” The in-game payments and rewards operate through ZBD’s Lightning Network integration, offering fast and low-cost transactions without redirecting users to external wallets or websites.

This new version represents the first fully native Lightning implementation within an iOS game. Users can now buy power-ups or retries and earn rewards entirely inside the app, making the experience smoother and more engaging.

Apple’s Crypto Policy in Action

Apple’s App Store guidelines do allow certain forms of cryptocurrency usage. According to section 3.1.5, developers can offer crypto-related services if they work through approved third-party providers like ZBD. However, apps still cannot sell cryptocurrencies directly via Apple’s in-app purchase system.

SaruTobi’s approach complies by using ZBD for crypto transactions while steering clear of Apple’s built-in payment methods. This development offers a practical example of how developers can integrate blockchain features without violating App Store rules.

A Boost for Mobile Gaming and Bitcoin

Originally launched in 2013, SaruTobi included Bitcoin payouts but was removed under stricter policies. Its return, now with seamless Lightning support, showcases how the crypto gaming space is evolving on iOS.

For mobile game developers, this approval signals a new path forward. Games can now offer micro Bitcoin transactions and rewards if they follow Apple’s conditions. Players have praised the game’s ease of use and the novelty of earning real Bitcoin in a fun, casual format.

As Apple cautiously embraces crypto functionality, SaruTobi’s return could open doors for more Bitcoin-integrated apps in the future.
